rl231 Posted February 20, 2023 Author Posted February 20, 2023 Castaways, welcome to the fifth challenge of Survivor: ATRL Edition - Fans vs. Favorites! Tribal immunity is back up for grabs... TWO tribes will win, and the other is going to Tribal Council. The highest scorer on each tribe will also receive immunity. Let’s get started! The theme for Round 5 is... I Found A Wallet "You'll never know me, I'll never know you" This round, we are looking for songs where the narrator is thinking about/learning about a stranger. However, the other person doesn’t know our narrator is pondering them! They might not even know the narrator exists. Fantasies that are romantic or sexual will be considered “good enough” this round, but a more platonic or mundane approach will result in the strongest scores. What To Do: Once your song is selected, PM both of the hosts the artist and title of your song on Discord in our group DM. You don't have to include a link to the song unless you are sending a specific version of it. There's no explanation needed as your song should speak for itself. If your song requires an explanation to make sense, it's not a good fit. There are 20 of you playing this game. You guys are bound to submit the same songs at some point and because no one can occupy the same song, we encourage you to send a back-up choice along with your first pick. This applies especially to those who are not around when a round is posted and don't have the luxury of choosing an instant track. IMPORTANT NOTE: ONCE YOU SEND A SONG THAT IS AVAILABLE, YOUR CHOICE IS LOCKED AND YOU MAY NOT SWITCH. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SWITCH SONGS. IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR SONG FIRST, THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SUBMIT A NEW ONE, SO PLEASE SUBMIT A BACK-UP. Take Into Consideration: The panel will judge the audio/lyrics of the track you submit. Music videos will not increase or decrease your score as some music video plots differ from a song's true meaning. The theme is what is important here. You will not receive a low score because you sent in a song one of the judges does not like. Taste will at the most be the difference between an 8.5 or a 9. We will never dock off multiple points based off mere preference. The song you choose should display the meaning upfront. An interview with your artist clarifying the meaning of the song will not be taken into consideration. Judging Scale (May Vary By Judge): 9/10 – Great entry. Track displays the theme given head on. 8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others. 7 – Okay entry. Fits decently but is missing something overall. 6 – Somewhat tackles the theme but falls flat. 5 – Track mentions theme but is otherwise off–base. 3/4 – Song does not hit the theme given besides a line or two. 1/2 – Song has to do with a completely different subject than the theme. We will supply an example for each round for you all to take inspiration from. Obviously no one can select this song as their entry. The example for this round is “Wallet” by Regina Spektor. Thank you judge @Rotunda for this creative idea! In this song, the narrator finds a wallet that someone has lost. She makes observations about this stranger’s life based on what she finds inside: photos, receipts, license, etc. When she returns it, she notes that they will never meet each other and the stranger will never know she was the one who found the wallet. _______________________________________________________ The tribes with the highest average score will be safe this round, meaning that the losing tribe will each attend tribal council. Remember that the highest scoring member of the losing tribe will be immune at tribal council. Your song submissions are due in ~23.5 hours (7 PM ET) on Monday, February 20th. Good luck and please let the hosts know if you have any questions! @Auburn @bowdown @fais_2311 @Guero @Speezy @Stevie @Taeyeon @touya kinomoto @TruGemini @Allday @Aurora @brycehooha @Delirious @Fifteen @kittenish @Kylie Verzosa @Luckitty @wish

rl231 Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 Welcome castaways to your 5th results show! Below will be the rankings for each round. The two tribes with the highest average will win immunity, and the top person on the losing tribe will also be immune from Tribal Council. Gateau was unavailable this round, so we have three judges (luckystrike, Rotunda, and supaspaz) scoring, instead of four. After I reveal the scores, I will post the final results which will include how you ranked against all castaways, and finally the overall rankings after this round. With that said, here it is… @Auburn @bowdown @fais_2311 @Guero @Speezy @Stevie @Taeyeon @touya kinomoto @TruGemini @Allday @Aurora @brycehooha @Delirious @Fifteen @kittenish @Kylie Verzosa @Luckitty @wish
rl231 Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 Allday Lil Wayne - Dear Anne bowdown Zöe Marie - People Watching (lyrics) brycehooha Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher fais_2311 CeeLo Green - People Watching Speezy Passenger - Night Vision Binoculars wish Tenille Townes - Somebody's Daughter Lil Wayne - Dear Anne luckystrike - 1 - The way this is like the complete opposite of what the prompt asks for… he’s just talking about his own life + they don’t even seem to be strangers. Rotunda - 2.5 - Wayne spends only a couple seconds of this confessional track pondering Anne or her life. Anne also isn’t technically a stranger. supaspaz - 1 - I don’t think Wayne spends a single second of this confessional track pondering Anne or her life. She is just a vehicle for him to open up and show appreciation for his fans. Zöe Marie - People Watching luckystrike - 6 - It definitely has a few lines that go with the theme but most of the song is just about herself. Rotunda - 7 - This is “good enough” but the observations are quite shallow. supaspaz - 7 - This touches on the theme, but it’s not particularly revealing. The song is unfortunately more about the act of people watching than any actual observations from the narrator, aside from a few stray lines about the couple behind her. Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher luckystrike - 9 - She’s pondering, yes. Rotunda - 9.5 - Excellent. Phoebe goes on a few too many tangents (as is her style), but otherwise strong. supaspaz - 8.5 - An unconventional approach to the theme, but not an uninteresting one, as Phoebe reflects on her musical hero whom she will never meet, giving us a glimpse into her through her love of Elliott Smith. CeeLo Green - People Watching luckystrike - 8.5 - It gets the job done for the theme. Rotunda - 7 - This is more surface level than I’d like, but there’s some solid pondering here. supaspaz - 9.5 - This is basically what we asked for, if a bit general. Although I suspect he might know Miss Tina… Passenger - Night Vision Binoculars luckystrike - 6 - It was pretty good in the first half but then it just focused way too much on him being a psycho rather than on the stranger. Rotunda - 7 - I’m the generous queen, ask Miss Ellen. supaspaz - 5 - More of stalking a coworker than contemplating a stranger, though I will give you credit that there is a clear social imbalance here. Tenille Townes - Somebody's Daughter luckystrike - 10 - One of the best entries of the entire game so far. Rotunda - 10 - You ate that. supaspaz - 10 - Perfect. Nirenberg next!
rl231 Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 Auburn Atmosphere - The Waitress Fifteen Jimmy Dean - Big Bad John Guero Lily Allen - LDN kittenish Janet Jackson - He Doesn't Know I'm Alive Luckitty Donna Summer - She Works Hard For The Money TruGemini Hospin - The Ill Mind of Hospin 9 Atmosphere - The Waitress luckystrike - 7.5 - I feel like at times it’s more about his suffering rather than the waitress but it’s definitely there. Rotunda - 9 - Slightly more self-involed than I’d want but otherwise great. supaspaz - 9 - Not this sounding like a Macklemore reject. The twist ending is ambiguous enough that I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and only knock this down a point. Jimmy Dean - Big Bad John luckystrike - 1 - Oh it was bad for you. Rotunda - 2 - Just because a song is about a third party doesn’t mean it fits supaspaz - 2 - This is just a story song about a miner. What on earth possessed you to submit it? Lily Allen - LDN luckystrike - 6 - Only the verses fit really, the rest of the song is more about London. Rotunda - 6.5 - Similar to the Cee Lo song, there’s not enough pondering/learning about the people in detail supaspaz - 6 - Weak connection to the theme. London is more of a character here than anyone Lily observes. Janet Jackson - He Doesn't Know I'm Alive luckystrike - 5 - Prompt says that romantic fantasies are considered good enough but still this is way too superficial/one note. Rotunda - 5 - Yeah you’re thinking about a guy, but it’s debatable on whether or not he would count as a “stranger,” and we’re missing some detail supaspaz - 3 - I feel like you fixated on a minor element of the prompt (“They might not even know the narrator exists”) at the expense of the theme. Donna Summer - She Works Hard For The Money luckystrike - 1 - Same situation as “Big Bad John” for me. Rotunda - 3 - Yeah this fits if you know the context the song was written in, but we don’t so… supaspaz - 7 - Right on target if you consider the backstory of how the song was written. But on its face, it’s unfortunately not a great fit with the theme, since Donna does not put herself into the lyrics as a narrator observing Onetta. Hopsin - The Ill Mind of Hopsin 9 luckystrike - 6 - Lord I want to punch him in the face. Obviously the parts about his son fit with the theme since they’re basically strangers, but then he also focuses too much on “dissing” his son’s mother. Rotunda - 7- I suppose. A lot of this is just him describing how the son is positioned based on knowledge he already has though supaspaz - 6 - Not this sounding like an Eminem reject. Despite stretching the definition of what one might reasonably consider a stranger, the concept of the song fits the theme reasonably well. The lyrics, on the other hand, are mostly just misogynistic garbage. Khorana next!
