Chlöe - "Pray It Away"

I'm not feeling this

Suprise + For The Night >>>

I'm worried for the album if she's not putting the past singles on it. If her next single isn't a bop like Have Mercy she will flop.

I have been rooting for her since day 1 but wtf is this single.

it is so abrasive lyrically in the first verse :rip: it’s so hard to continue listening

I think they’ll release multiple things before the album. They had to know this would be divisive. But I feel it was to show the side people have been asking for. More vocal and more soulful. I think we’ll hear more that’ll make sense of the album.

hope they don’t delay the album after seeing the numbers (RCA not giving an exact date but just a month scares me a bit ngl) and continue to promote the song :beatfreak:

Chloe fans be the most delusional fan base y’all think it’s just gonna randomly happen for her when her image is already too tainted which is why I’m guessing she went overboard with the take me to church gospel imagery but it’s still not it

You’re a bigger Chlöe fan than I am with the way you’re camped out in her threads. Please shut the **** up. We get it, you don’t like her music or her image so simply don’t listen:rip:

I don’t think they will push it past march. They are likely going to announce she’s going on tour with Beyoncé and she will need music to be an opening act

i do hope that they will force her to put on have mercy and treat me to get extra streaming sales cause that was stupid taking them off

I've loved all the singles so far but I really love this. :weeps: I can't stop listening.

She just needs to release the clean version that was used in the video, TBH. Surprised they weren't bundled together on release night, especially if the plan is to presumably go to radio with the clean version.

This song is amazing :jonnycat: My favorite song from her by far.

The song is nowhere near the Top 200 on US Apple Music :deadbanana2:

Where the hell did all these people go :rip:

This wouldve been a standout album track but no way in hell is this single material.

Im sorry but after Have Mercy all shes shown me is that shes learned EVERYTHING Beyoncé has to offer except the actual pop sensibilities.

Im not saying she should go pop, but the sensibilities of making a smash hit is something she absolutely lacks. She lacks so bad in making right singles, Have Mercy was the PERFECT lead, but the follow up was supposed to be the one to really take her to the mainstream level instead she gave us the overproduced Treat Me.

She needs to pick radio friendly singles, none of the **** she released since HM scream radio smash.

At this point I think its better if she becomes a hook girl for awhile, collab with DJs around the world and get her name out there.

This song was too minimalistic, no obvious hook, the choreo was not fitting the sound and aesthetic. Just because you can dance doesnt mean you have to dance to everything.

One more thing, she loves stacking and doing all these vocal acrobatics and honestly it just ruins the songs for me. Her voice is too distracting from the main melody that the song loses its catchiness at times. She needs to go through the Ariana Grande school of layering with pop smash hits.

Yikes.

Chloe & Colombia need to go ahead and buy Cry for Me from that other label and drop it as the next single. Reshoot the video with hot choreo and a big dance break choreographed by Sean Bankhead or Laurianne Gibson.

If Chloe doesn’t come with a Crazy in Love uptempo statement record, she’s roasted. People are not feeling her after the back to back missteps with Surprise & For the Night. I feel bad because she’s improving artistically with this song. It deserves to get a lil Grammy nom next year tbh. :alexz3:

She was too stuck in the r&b hiphop niche.

If she wants to do that kind of music she first needs to sell out and give us big pop bangers, the B print did not go right away to making acclaimed R&B records, she needed to sell herself short first with iconic pop bops like CiL, Baby Boy, etc.

A pop banger is what she needs.

This is her best song...it's just not single material

this song is pretty good. i think the only issue from a single standpoint is that the second half is much better/replay worthy than the first half and idk how that’ll hurt streaming/radio/etc

By modern standards, Cry for Me is a urban-pop song so that’s exactly what she needs right now. I’m not even convinced that Chloe can carry a full out *pop* song. I think she wants that lane but her team keeps marketing her back to urban radio audiences and outlets. Have Mercy was the best of both worlds by being a tiktok hit first.

HONESTLY, Chloe was a tiktok queen outside of her music. Why her singles stopped being promoted on tiktok first is another reason why the new stuff isn’t doing as good as Have Mercy. This drop was handled like a non-Gen Z artist and that’s not going to cut it. :bloo:

This isn’t 2003. Please throw Beyoncés blueprint out the window. Beyoncé went solo when R&B was still mainstream. Chloe will need a new formula because she is a black roman in 2023. Black women in general were practically absent from the Hot 100 charts sans Rihanna and Beyoncé in the 2010s.

Chloe decided to go that route. She did mention when she first announced her solo career that she is going Pop. But, I believe she just meant more commercial.

Either way, it was her decision to market herself back to urban audiences and outlets which is where her sexually-excessive image came into play. If you rewind back to Have Mercy, her image was very flirt-y, bright, and playful. Then soon after, her image changed and then she started affiliating herself with Gunna to appeal to that demographic. It was ultimately her decision because it is believed her parents weren't very supportive of it, and that's why they haven't spoken in months.

But the B singles were all pop bangers be for real she was as pop as what pop was allowed to be back then.

And they were uptempo bangers. Regardless of how you feel about B's 2000s output her hits were uptempo SMASHES (bar a few ballads ofc)

None of Chloe's output post Treat Me has been a banger, even Treat Me was borderline noise.

It's cute and i wouldn't mind as an album track but... as a lead? :deadbanana4:

It doesn't go anywhere and won't take her anywhere either. She should've just claimed HM as the lead and call it a day

I’m sure Have Mercy will find it’s way on to a deluxe edition eventually:coffee2:
