I was just saying that as a fan, I'm not connecting with this record on first listen because it feels, to me, so sonically far removed from the albums I loved from her. I've always been a massive supporter of hers and want what is best for her. And I'm leaving this here now because imo that response was totally unfair There is a huge cognitive dissonance between calling yourself a "fan" and setting decade-old music created under difficult circumstances with limited creative control as a benchmark for what a Kesha album in 2023 should ideally sound like. 2 1
cyclone Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 (edited) I think its far superior to high road but comparable since they suffer from the same issues. I can understand the criticisms, in the reviews / this thread, I know one day she will come out with an INSTANT album where we wont have to stockholm ourselves as fans into enjoying Edited May 19, 2023 by cyclone 1

Georges Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 I think Something to Believe In and Living in My Head both have commercial appeal. This whole album is so much better than High Road. I think it's her best since Animal. 1
Georges Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Y'all, I've been a Kesha stan since 2011 and this is where she would've been right after Animal if they let her cook! She initially wanted to major in psychology and religion, which can be seen in this album. 3
Rigalo Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Living in My Head is a BOOT! Still ok but everything else is so much better the drama made me jaw drop I was not expecting that beat and then only for it to build and build… All I need is You…. YES! Peace & Quiet 1

HeavyMetalAura Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 WOW. Had the chance to listen a few hours ago and THIS is the sound I've been wanting from pop music FOREVER. I've been praying Gaga, Madonna, Bey, SOMEBODY artsy but poppy would make something that's both minimalist and maximalist at the same time, psychedelic and left-field and deep but still pop with epic hooks. So proud of her. Too Far Gone might just top Praying and We R Who We R as my favorite Kesha song. The run from Ram Dass Interlude to Happy is incredible. Not a single bad song. 2

SmittenCake Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Not even going to bother responding to the obvious troll-bait. It sometimes takes a while for me to digest lyrics/punchlines and the writing doesn't hit me until months/years later. This album is full of of life (a very sad, stressful life) and you can tell that from the very first track. I cannot believe people were expecting an Ayesha Erotica type album from Kesha in 2023. If you can view the aesthetic of this era, you shouldn't be asking about "where are the bops!?!?" 1
SmittenCake Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 She said she wrote 70 songs for this album and I sure hope we can hear the unreleased tracks.
Mr. Peanutbutter Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Very interesting album. I'll definetly listen to it again cause it wasn't instant but still kept me interested. It's pretty cool that she went to this direction, feels very authentic to her and makes me want to look forward for what she's gonna do next

Mystic Warrior Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 I love what she did with this album. There’s something so wistful about it, at least for myself. Kesha is a very uniquely talented woman and I look forward to her future free from Luke now that she’s allegedly satisfied her contract.
SoulKiwi Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Obsessed, especially the last half of the album, it’s transcendental
gettsleazy Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 (edited) If anything, it’s been interesting seeing people online and even in this thread come around to this album after declaring they hated it. Some of the switch ups are giving whiplash lol but I’m not mad. I feel like this means the record will have longevity as an *album* and not just a one-note moment. High Road was also polarizing but not like this. The fans really didn’t like it. The fans already love this album, and from what I’ve seen most of the “I only listen to acclaimed music” Björk/Arca/Fiona etc. community is really enjoying it. If it’s not clicking with casual listeners, that’s fine… there’s still time for them to come around. The only thing still throwing me are all the people complaining about it not being $. First, she’s straight up declared multiple times she’s done with that phase of her artistry, so they’re actively making themselves look like fools. Second, this record to me is more $ than Rainbow and HR. It has many inflection points reminiscent of the Animal era and while her outlook and output has changed it has that same bravado she brought to the table with her early releases. Yes, it’s dark and difficult at times, but it is very much a synthesis of all of her previous sonic identities that didn’t work out right on HR. rant over, but I am really happy to see so many people that consider Rainbow her magnum opus saying that this is better.
