Miss Fortune Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Whatever people may say about RAYE, she makes interesting music with an incredible point of view. Getting an album like this from an act nowadays is rare. Whether you like the songs or not, they make you feel SOMETHING. Some albums now (looking at some recent pop albums, for example) are so bland that they just sit as background music. You can't really love or hate them because they are just so bland. This is anything but bland.
JoeAg Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Mary Jane is so adisjgokmnsfdhojignsd idk how to explain the feelings that song evokes Amy would be SO proud!
omrimayo Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 I mean ice cream man. Alone is… I’m speechless.
DailyPoison Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Just started the album. The last minute of Oscar winning tears scalped me!!!
Dragonfly Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 (edited) I thought I'd give this a casual listen, but she is demanding all my attention Only 7 tracks in, but very impressed edit: wow, I wasn't ready for Ice Cream Man Tracks 10-11-12 are on the weaker side for now Edited February 3, 2023 by Dragonfly

Whoever heard buss it down and didn’t tell her immediately to scrap it from existence does not love the good sis. Happy for her that she got an album out, though. Buss It Down is a highlight on the album sweetie I do agree, the first part of the album is great. After Escapism my interest kinda went away and i was def like um, you can scrap some of this
Ice Cream Skies Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 What led her to place Body Dysmorphia right after Flip A Switch? And Five Star Hotels immediately after Environmental Anxiety?
Cqmerqn Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Wow. I have been a big fan of RAYE since 2016 and I never thought I’d see the day when she could release an album. If I did, I expected it to be full of feats/dance tracks. There are some real highlights on this and the cohesion is absolutely insane. I really hope this goes to #1! A huge FU to Polydor.
TrueBlood Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 It's a very impressive debut album, she totally met my expectations.

BlackoutZone Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 It's not a perfect album, but it's a perfect debut. It shows RAYE's ambition as an artist, her versatility, confidence. I really like it and I'm pumped for what's next. If she released these (still great) pop tracks she'd end up like Ava Max - acclaimed by bunch of forums gays, with 0 hits, 0 interest from the GP, 0 interest from critics, minimal audience growth and no tour demand She made the right call
iknowplaces Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 It's a very interesting album. Full of personality.

Everything else will come in due time. On that note I really wanted her original pop debut album to be released 😢 did we ever get a title or tracklist? Her pop tracks hold a very special place for me because being a popstar of color and finding the success that she did it was refreshing. Most black female artists are relegated to just making urban music and it was just really nice to see a girl like Raye find so much success in pop. Not enough black female singers making pop music.
Dear Reader Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 I enjoyed listening to it the first time, need to listen a couple more for some songs to grow. The highlights for me were: Oscar Winning Tears, Black Mascara, Ice Cream Man, Flip a Switch and Environmental Anxiety. Her lyrics are actually very good all around, I feel like she has so much potential, I’ll be following this girl
OldSoul Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 I dont get the hate for Buss it down. It is amazing

I'm just being realistic. And please don't box black female artists like this.. especially in this case where RAYE explicitly explained this is what she wants to do
Gladiator Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 This album immediately pushed itself to the top of my favorite albums list this year (even though its Feb). Very, very high regards for this and I don't think this will drop. I love it.
Abracadabra Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Environmental Anxiety is giving Massive Attack meets All Saints vibes Obsessed

Tyrion_LMG Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 This is such a strong body of work. Lyrically is outstanding and she is incredibly talented for soul and R&B. Oscar Winning Tears is a ******* masterpiece. I'm not a fan of hers, but I will start following her career from now on, she snapped.
