Sanguine Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 ROUND ELEVEN CRITIQUES Björk - It's Oh So Quiet: Considering this is literally a cover of a 1950's song, no questions theme-wise. I always loved this too! It's such a random song for her I understand why a lot of her fans pan though nnnn Carly Rae Jepsen - When I Needed You: Def feels like a modern interpretation of 80s Synthpop. An underrated Emotion cut!! One of her few songs where the verses outshine the chorus Christina Aguilera - Back in the Day: Figured you would go for Back to Basics again, and it's a fit. She even references old soul and Jazz artists in the intro! Song is a bop, I like the chorus Demi Lovato - Got Dynamite: It's more of an influence here than something that takes over the song, but still works. It goes hard too FKA twigs - Mothercreep: I can hear the influence in a modern context. Amazingggg song it's equally eerie and catchy Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts: Good callback to 80s New Wave. My favorite on the album! Solange - T.O.N.Y.: Yeah it's kinda giving Minnie Riperton'd 60s Soul but Poppier. I went back and forth on the song for a bit but liked it by the hook @CBC @Staryu @Auburn @Noah @Touch It @wish @Not Like The Movies
Kinich Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 h』『i』『k』『a』『r』『i』 『h』『a』『s』 『s』『h』『*』『t』 『t』『o』 『s』『a』『y』 Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet Very much on point with the theme, you'd either love or hate this cover. I think it was a safe choice. Carly Rae Jepsen - When I Needed You I can definitely hear some 80s feels in this song. This aged better than most of the songs in the album. Christina Aguilera - Back in the Day A smart choice of course! The chorus was catchier than the verses but it was good enough for me to keep listening. Demi Lovato - Got Dynamite That was harder and grittier than I was expecting and it's actually very impressive considering her age here. FKA twigs - Mothercreep Very eclectic, somehow a lil bit chaotic but still laced with that twigs style. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts Very new wave 80s indeed, modernized without sounding dated. Aged better than Prisoner. Solange - T.O.N.Y. Yeah I can hear the motown influence in this song. It grew on the second listen, it sounded amazing.

Euterpe Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 For the most part, y’all fit the theme, so I’m not going to comment on that. @CBC @Staryu @Auburn @Noah @Touch It @wish @Not Like The Movies Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet Do I like it? I’ve heard this on so many commercials and didn’t know this was Bjork. It’s good, but very annoying. Carly Rae Jepsen - When I Needed You Do I like it? It fits the 80s, but doesn’t fit my heart. Christina Aguilera - Back in the Day Note: While it fits the round, I disagree with your explanation assessment of it. Do I like it? Yes, I really liked her voice on this. Demi Lovato - Got Dynamite Do I like it? I like the choruses and the bridge better than the verses. FKA twigs - Mothercreep Do I like it? I don’t hate it, but it’s not my favorite. Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts Do I like it? I’m not the biggest fan of the raspy nature of her voice in the song, but otherwise, I did really enjoy it. Solange - T.O.N.Y. Do I like it? I really enjoyed this. Probably my favorite Solange song you’ve exposed me to!
