Unpopular opinion: Dead Petz could've been a successful album with a more polished production, safer image and without some of the messy tracks/interludes. It had the potential to be big among the tumblr crowd, which was popular at the time, but Dooo It! and her aesthetic was obviously a turn off to many people outside of the fandom. It's a shame because DP has some of her greatest work as a songwriter.

I don’t see that as an unpopular take at all. She could’ve kept the following in no particular order:

 

-KDBS

-Space Bootz

-Baby Talk (except maybe change like most of the lyrics cuz chile that is too much for most of the poor gp)

-Fweaky

-Bang Me Box

-IGSS

-Lighter

-1 Sun

-Twinkle Song

 

And she would’ve had a solid mixtape on her hands

Honestly Dead Petz isn’t that bad, especially for an experimental, psychedelic rock and non-commercial project. The album is inconsistent in terms of overall quality but it still contains some of the best songs/hidden gems in her discography. Lighter alone >>>>> anything else on Mid Now. I haven‘t listened to that album since like 2018 but i still jam to a few good songs on MC&HDP from time to time.

On the topic of Dead Petz: it is a masterpiece and aging insanely well. Sure there are many choices that are imperfect but it only strengthens the boldness of her doing this kind of project. We don’t have MPGs taking risks like this in the 21st century and retrospectively it is a career highlight and arguably her magnum opus.
