It's my understanding Kpop music genre weakness is in its combined numbers, there are simply not many active artists compared to other music genres.

Although, Bang PD more immediate worries are Kpop music consumption in Asia, its stagnation in East Asia and its decline in South East Asia (against local music). That's the reason he has been advocating for more promotion in the West.

This is SO interesting.

 

I also think all Kpop tends to get lumped together whereas Afrobeats and Latin artists still maintain some element of individuality despite being in the same genre together. Like Tyla's success is Tyla's success, not all of Afrobeats's success.

 

I'm more intrigued and fascinated by KPOP dying in South East Asia. I have seen some local groups rising in Thailand etc. but I am wondering if there's a larger social/cultural or even political reason as to why SEA is less into Korean **** these days.

And of course, why is KPOP stagnating in East Asia? Are those album sales numbers we're being told, which keep getting bigger and bigger (1 million albums being sold per week for every big artist) not trustworthy?

 

Are there certain trends in KPOP these days that just have people quietly turning away from the genre?
