he’s not “way older”, he’s only 2 years older than him. the only valid argument that can be made is that portugal’s national team has never been on the same level as argentina’s.

The 2 years in football in crazy different. The 38 is way different than 35. At 35 Ronaldo was in Juventus and broke scoring records, at that year 2020 Ronaldo stats were even bigger than Messi who was 33! That year Ronaldo had 51 G/A in 45 games for Juventus and National Team, in tough defensive club Juve and Serie a. Both are good players but, that did similar numbers when they were at same age, but the biggest difference is Portugal and Argentina squad and history, Argentina is way ahead and helped Messi greatly, Portugal in other hand is 2nd tier nation that was never competitive till Ronaldo came.

Those are the most sane comparisons lol you can't compare two who are different in age, compare them when they were at same age and let's see. But you don't like the result.

Pls there is like no difference between 35 and 37 :lmao:

Ronaldo is just a flop fad with a dated discography and I highly doubt Messi is gonna be the same when he turns 37.

While we are at it he also should stop bathing in lard. Greasy MF :rip:

Are you really going to come here and say that Portugal's squad is worse than Argentina and Ronaldo lost because of them? When Ronaldo did nothing the entire World Cup while Messi practically carried Argentina in most games?

Portugal 2nd tier nation with this current squad?? They had arguably the 3rd best squad in this WC only losing to France and Brazil.

Messi > Ronaldo

Di Maria >>> Otávio

Julián Álvarez > João Félix

Rodrigo de Paul <<<<<<< Bruno Fernandes

Mac Allister <<<<<<< Bernardo Silva

Enzo Fernandez <<<< Vitinha

Nicolás Tagliafico <<< Raphael Guerreiro

Cristián Romero <<<<< Rúben Dias

Otamendi <<< Pepe

Emiliano Martínez < Diogo Costa

Not really, I like Ronaldo but I feel like he went downhill as he got older, Messi just kept on being great and the WC sealed the deal on his legacy.

Weird how no one is mentioning Messy's obvious payola.

What payola could we possibly have, our highest denomination bill is worth less than $3 dollars :rip:

Cristian Romero can eat Ruben Dias at any day, he's a top defender who did great everywhere he played, unlike Dias or any Manchester City players who flop outside Pep formation

Leandro Paredes & De Paul are good solid defenders

And even Palacios is pretty good

Argentina have Dybala on the freaking sub!!! A player like Dybala is their backup because the amount of good talent players they have in front

Bruno Fernandes is good and ****, sometimes giving amazing games other times awful till the point for years ManU fans wanted him out, Diogo Costa never played in high level in national, he actually rarely played because they always used Rui Patrício. Pepe is like 40!!! How the hell you think he'll do at that age? You think footballers are superhuman or what? Most retired at age 35 because they can't give, same as Pepe, he give it all and he's mistakes are alot, he even barely played with Porto this season from Injury and being old, João Félix has been so bad that he's even turn to sub player for Atletico Madrid, Rafael Leão is the actually a great winger/attacker but the coach rarely used him, only after 85 minutes he'll let him in. The Ramos guy showed up one game then disappeared.

Argentina was and still the better team with better overall talent and experience, they have the history as well, while Portugal in other hand was never a top national team till Ronaldo generation came, before that nobody even cared about them, they'll show one or two great players once every 10 years and that's it, they are not competitive top nation throughout the history like Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain (then appeared on the last 15 years) and France. These are facts and history proved it.

Argentina before Messi:

2 world cups, 4 finals

14 copa americas, 25 finals (most successful nation)

Portugal before ronaldo:

0 world cups, 0 finals

0 euros, 0 finals

Basically. They acting as if Portugal won everything before and the most successful nation, when in fact they were like Czech or Switzerland who bring good player once every decade. Ronaldo actually took it to top, but now that's he's old they going back to their place.

Exactly. Good comparison

Messi, mbappe, Neymar all have the luxury of being from powerhouse nations that they can thrive in. Before them and after them.

Ffs, we’re comparing Argentina to a nation that hardly ever *qualified* for the WC before ronaldo. It’s ironic because only reason they even speak of portugal with these teams nowadays is because of him.

If Messi was Paraguayan or Bolivian I doubt he’d be holding the same trophy right now. And that’s not me taking away from his brilliance.. but apparently the OP would. It’s a shame, bc legends get overlooked that way.Imagine if George Weah played for France? If Eusebio was Brazilian?
