MingYouToo Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 @NEUTRON right?! Its so weird to me how in the early 21st century you'd have rappers who would debut with 500k-1M pure, shadowing even the biggest girls like Xtina, Britney, Bey, etc. whenever they released. But now it feels like the consumers of hiphop have transitioned, I don't think the hiphop buyers of the 00s are same as the hiphop consumers of the 10s-now, the rise of Drake and mumble rap I feel like has made mainstream hiphop very streaming friendly but not worth investing into as a record the way Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, or The Massacre or Marshal Mathers. Not even Kendrick who is inarguably the face of artistic and meaningful hip hop music in today's day and age can escape from the lack of purchasing power and it baffles me, is it a symptom of a larger phenomena present in the hip hop community? is it the BIPOC community changing consumer behaviors? or is it just because labels dont care to promote their physical records. its so confusing because these rappers should be selling well too!
Navyboy20 Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Good for her. CTRL really grew on people once they were able to understand what she was saying.

Ivan_brit Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 SZA At one point I was... she will flop she took sooo long for this album, but at the same time when I heard Shirt & the album trailer video... Michael196 Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 evermore would be in the top 3 20 without christmas albums

This album shows that she has staying power and it’s great to see. I mean I guess. I feel like her constant hits and attention whenever she drops a single would've been an indicator of a smash album. I knew if Summer could do 160k with no prior hits, SZA would do about double and that's what were seeing here

simmnfierzig Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 SZA should get at least a 2nd week at #1 with those numbers
pride4jc1222 Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 According to RIAA.com: SZA Title: SOS Certification Date: December 16, 2022 Label: TOP DAWG ENTERTAINMENT / RCA RECORDS Format: ALBUM Gold Doesn’t gold mean 500k units? If that’s the case, then the 315k is a severe underestimate.

There have been a few that were a bit bigger, but nothing close to 200k. And the bigger difference were pretty much all on pure sales side. There are significantly harder to track than streaming numbers and um SZA doesnt have phyiscals. And looking at Spotify and Apple Music 315k seems totally fine

Oh lol, yeah. Obviously The lead single from the album was released 2 years ago, I forgot So that's 400k+ units from the 2 pre release songs

She deserves all the pure sales in the world! It's not just them. Have you seen what's going on with the industry? Pure sales are dead! Basically mostly white teens/young adults buy records for aesthetics anymore.
