Nip Tuck Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I kinda see her point tbh I mean yes there was obviously successful female-led action movies pre-THG but I feel like the way Katniss is portrayed vs them is very different. Also none of them are on the level of THG. I mean someone in here mentioned Underworld which all movies combined is still like less than one THG movie.
favorite crime Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 y'all need to touch some grass. yeah she should have thought a moment longer before saying that but her statement literally harmless. and hunger games was the first female led action film/series to compete with the male ones. the highest grossing female led action film before that grossed like 300mil like bffr. and her point about men not going to watch female protagonists is absolutely true
HRH Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 She's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment. Let me go stream mother! for the 5th time.
thismoment Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 maybe she meant that it was the biggest franchise with a female lead

This is what people are missing from this. All the movies that were posted here are very different from THG. They are either very masculine action films where the female is overtly sexualized and violent, or the regular final girl horror film. THG put female empowerment in a much more fresh and nounced context, and it had a lot of romantic elements. It was a female lead written by and for other women, while other female leads were always written from a male gaze. Not to mention the film being primarily targeted to young adults, there was no footprint of that in Hollywood at the time. Edited December 8, 2022 by Gui Blackout
MonsterJohn Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 that's why her career ended. insufferable
Assassin Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 did she basically imply that she paved the way for Viola Davis to star in The Woman King?? LMAO

NausAllien Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 There aren't that many female-led action movies, but there are enough to make her statement categorically false.

That is what I thought she was saying, since she was talking about THG. From a teen young adult movie perspective, she’s right. Parents were taking their kids to these movies - they weren’t taking kids to Kill Bill and Salt

mystery Posted December 9, 2022 Author Posted December 9, 2022 She clarified her statement to the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: Jennifer Lawrence Clarifies Remark About Female-Led Action Movies: “It Came Out Wrong” Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, Lawrence said, “That’s certainly not what I meant to say at all. I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film. What I meant to emphasize was how good it feels. And I meant that with Viola — to blow past these old myths that you hear about … about the chatter that you would hear around that kind of thing. But it was my blunder and it came out wrong. I had nerves talking to a living legend.”
RunBoyRun Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 People taking this mispoken term from this amazing interview shows their lack of smarts. Not hers. She's incredibly intelligent. Just not perfect. She made several points. Her career is far from over. 25 million for Don't Look Up just last year. As if that's a "career is over" type of thing.
Rafael Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Althought she did word it badly, I love how people are trying to drag her by bring examples for all these female action led films where 99% of them are women being "sexual" or "sex symbols" in a very manly type of stories as if men wouldn't want to see that. Hunger Games, if you thought about it, is a story focus solely on a woman, a child almost, not sexualized at all, with a "love triangle" where the woman is at the center, it doesn't have crazy shot gun actions like boys usually like, and STILL it was tremendouly successfull between all genders. She has made SEVERAL points referencing Hunger Games for that... she just word it terribly by saying it was the first. I hope that now that she explained herself, it was the nervers, she knows she wasn't the first, you guys can stop being idiots about it.

How was Katniss sexualized in comparison to all those females roles people are throwing around to drag her??? Make it make sense. Yall are doing waaaay to much to try to drag her more than what was needed for something that was clearly an honest mistake.
