You didn’t hear it from me, but the versions of Damaged and Civilian that surfaced are wav files (lossless) they are actually the highest quality tracks from that album that we have (along with Lovesick I think?) the rest run the gambit in terms of audio quality but Civilian and Damaged are top notch!

scrapped hollywood record album 2009 and the scrapped 78violet album are 2 separate projects idk why people keep grouping them together. they've even done interviews stating such

It's such a great album, I love how all their 3 HR albums are so different from each other and still pretty damn good.

I will never forgive HR for shelving both 78Violet and shelving Hilary's Dignity 2.

wait we were suppose to get a dignity 2.0? when? i'm still mad that we didn't get this heart by hilary. her folk pop album album was lowkey serving red

I adore the shelved 78violet record, holds a very special place in my heart (as well as Hothouse) :wanda:

same i was so mad that it's not gonna be released. if they could release an exclusive vinyl i don't see why they can't just slap it on streaming services and get coin out of it like come on

Allow me to do some ‘research’ :gaycatina1:

I think sometimes we have to remember that things happen for a reason and if they did release the 78violet album, that could have lead to us never getting their synth-pop material or these last two albums and I couldn’t imagine not having these last two albums.

it also had to do with the legalities of disney still owning their name for about a decade which is scary but we're past that and now we're here thankfully

considering the vibe of the record any of these would've been much better

I don’t think anyone here said otherwise? We were talking about the file quality of the songs we have.

Also, the Hollywood Records album was self-titled as 78violet (2009) just in case you were getting confused. They technically have two shelved albums under that moniker, plus the demos they worked on prior to finalizing the 2009 tracklist (Fading, Practical, Mine etc.) and after Hothouse prior to Ten Years (Plutonium).

Yes! The original plan was to rerelease Dignity instead of the final Best Of album.

Reach Out was always planned as the first single for the rerelease and some of the songs were:

Holiday

Twisted

Heroine

Imperfection

I Will

Not Another Chance

Just Hold Me

And the cover of Love Is a Battlefield.

That's why it was set to be called Digntity 2, it was meant to be a very long expansion.

Yes, they changed the band name while signed to Hollywood Records in 2009 having recorded a full record, then left HR the following year and released their first song as 78violet ‘Belong Here’ as the Hellcats’ theme song. There’s some funny videos from back then with the girls talking about the name change and even mentioning songs from the shelved record.

If you’re interested, both 78violet and Hothouse have official track lists (side note: Crumble is post 2009 thought to have been shown to David for a potential rework for Hothouse but never pursued further. Blood flow and Secret Door are rough demos from the Hothouse sessions. Practical, Fading, and Mine were never included on the official 78violet tracklist from 2009, they are thought to have been early demos prior to the band shifting directions. And Plutonium is post-Hothouse when they were working on more accessible material to get label attention)

Dx why didn't we get just that instead ugh this is actually news to me because I didn't know omfg the fact that we could've gotten another proper Hilary Duff album :ace: and a cover of the Jordin Sparks song?

thank you so much for the background information

so i just listened to this album a few times. it's by no means at all. it's definitely a background lofi vibe. but it's missing the highs from the last record and differentiation. at certain points the album feels like you're listening to one long song. we've now have 2 records that are sonically the same soundscape. i'd like to get a switch up on the next record. the record is clearly a night time companionship to the last record. don't know if this is a record that i want to see live on tour unless it's meshed with their last album as a setlist. don't know if they toured the last album.

i kind of only listen to half the album (blue dress, open to something...., 6 months, with love from and baby lay your head down), the rest sound forgettable 😅

100% agree. Love You This Way, After Hours and Tear the Night Up are generic and repetitive. WON,WOG is just boring and I don’t love joys voice on it. Also don’t get the hype for Sunchoke, they should’ve listened to the producer about cutting it cause the lyrics are kinda dumb. The highs on this album aren’t as high as ATOTB and the lows are lower. They need to quit chasing this “Americana” sound. They’re doing it for the sake of being taken seriously but if the next album is more of the same ATOTB rejects I see them alienating a large part of their fan base.

they did tour the last record. I saw both tours and this one was definitely an improvement all around this time. Great show, everyone in the band is wicked talented. Definitely recommend seeing them live! If they extended and come back to my state I’ll definitely catch them again.

can they come to Europe :'(

seeing them live tonight after going to all their tours since ten years and this is by far the worst setlist they’ve ever had :rip:  why do they hate ten years & sanctuary now

yeah very strange that they've become so anti pop considering that's what they're known for. and that's what made them successful again after their hiatus and the whole americana sound with hothouse turned people off and away. smfh i love them. they're talented. but they can also be very stubborn and fickle. this is a perfect example of how and why.

yeah we got now 2 album with similar sounds please switch it up michalka's. if we get another slow vibey vintage sound for the third time around i'm gonna riot. i don't just wanna sway i want to jump and sing back loud to the music. or at least find a balance with like ATOTB. making music that is more stripped or mid tempo doesn't automatically make you more of an artist. i wish that they would realize that. i would be down to see them it's just that my hands are tied funds wise.

I really love this album, and listen to it constantly. I think I have a better grip on my feelings toward it in relation to their discography now.

I do agree that it lacks some of the highs of A Touch of the Beat. However, it's far more consistent. I don't really dread or skip any songs like I do with Hold Out, Dead on the Beach, Break Yourself, Lucky to Get Him, Am I Alright, and Paradise.

It may not have a Symptom or Pretty Places but Blue Dress, Baby Lay Your Head Down, Talking in My Sleep, Sunchoke, and With Love From are awesome and the rest have kept me in great company this past month. :jamming:

I’m sorry! It was cute for a couple spins upon release but I never touch it now.

BUT as is the case with all their songs, I still like it as they really can’t do anything wrong in my eyes lol

This grew on me a lot but of course isn’t touching the perfection of atotb… that’s kinda circling back as one of my essential albums tbh

I really hope their next album is VERY different to this (great) album.

I want them to shake things up.
