ATRL Moderator bluebirdsforever Posted October 24, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted October 24, 2022 Yeah, this is insane. I actually think the more low-key vibe of the album has helped it a lot. There's nothing that sticks out as immediately jarring or unlistenable like on some of her previous pop albums, so I think it's growing on people a lot.
PoisonedIvy Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 What the hell these day 3 numbers are amazing

Folklore89sm Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Her vocal performance on some of these songs is genuinely breath-taking. This girl knows every corner of her voice now and she is using it so beautifully. Lavender Haze is vocally stunning, Maroon sounds so sexy, but the star of the show is Anti-Hero. The way she's mastered her voice now and has that little squeaky voice crack in the verses is addictive. This is the hottest/edgiest/sexiest Taylor has every sounded/looked/acted. She's always struggled to completely convince me on this side of her character but I'm blown away by how much more confident she is in her self. I just know that the Lavender Haze video is going to take this to the next level. Midnights still isn't my favourite record from Taylor but its like a drug. I can't stop crawling back to it for a hit every few hours. It's kind of sort of exactly the sound she needed to follow. The alt/folk stuff (while being my favourite sound from her) had grown a bit old and was obviously a little less accessible, and the blockbuster pop of everything before those two albums is too upbeat and girly now. The sweeping, dark, late-night 1980s shimmering synths with a good mix of sophisticated and fun lyrics is exactly what the world needed right now. I still live in hope that she'll someday tackle that 1970s rock sound that the aesthetic hinted at, and while Midnights definitely feels like a transitional album, I'm very happy to stay with it for a while.

She previously also put out albums the week Lover and Evermore came out (she blocked Lover from no. 1 with a live LP if I recall correctly). The German chart is a revenue based one and Helene is selling her vinyls for almost 60 euros (compared to 35 euros for Taylor), and additional box sets for 50 euros. It's gonna be a little tough battle there but I am hopeful that with the huge streams Taylor is gonna overtake her for the top spot.
