I don’t get the comparison at all besides them being brown skin girls. Coco is much more traditional R&B

That’s literally what I said. She’s like Urban AC SZA. Their tones and cadence are very similar to me when singing

She’s the soulful more traditional version of SZA is the reason I knew she would always happen.

I wouldn’t say Coco Jones is traditional R&B. That would be someone with a singing style such as Aretha Franklin or Patti Labelle. She is also not Alt R&B like SZA or Summee Walker. She is moreso contemporary R&B reminiscent of the vocals from powerful R&B artists in the late 90’s, early 2000’s a la Monica, Brandy, Keke Wyatt etc.

That’s urban Ac. That’s her lane. That’s why I don’t see her being as big as someone like Normani who has more global potential, Coco is kinda bound to US/UK success like Chloe.

It’s urban AC now but in the late 90s and 2000s this sound was very much just urban and one could argue mainstream (also acts like Brandy, Monica where mainstream). That in a nutshell, was contemporary R&B. Alt R&B has pushed contemporary R&B to the Urban AC format.

I hear this all over my TikTok, used by couples as a trend to show the start of their relationship and where they are now. Idk if the trend has moved over to the more "mainstream" (aka white) side of TikTok but with it's current performance they should definitely get some increased plays.

why is white synonymous of “mainstream.” You do realize that in the 90s and 2000s, black music (R&B) was mainstream.

In terms of TikTok, it is the white side that typically jumps onto already-established trends by other groups, and those songs then start to see increased streaming, charting, and radio play :michael:Is that not what happened with Hrs and Hrs?

It's a worthy side conversation to talk about the pay disparities between white vs minority influencers BUT when musicians want their song to trend on TT they reach out to a specific subsection of influencers who have the audience/influence to push it.

In reference to r&b once being mainstream there's no disagreement from me, but in current times I would say that Rap is the most used and influenced genre, but it takes a diverse audience to push it to success. Drake, Future, Lil Baby, etc. don't see their charting/touring success solely off the backs of a minority audience.

Chloe’s music isn’t like Coco either. Lol She’s pop/r&b.

No I’m not seeing their music is similar. I’m saying they will only have US success because of their sound

I think it’s fair to say ICU is going to chart on BB100 in a week or two right?

The iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify numbers are all increasing fast.

Why does nobody listen to me? I be having the tea as usual. That one person who tried to tell me I’m wrong lost. Mother Coco won. :bird:

Lol! Yeah, she started working for her like almost immediately after Lydia left Doja.  Coco coming for blood.  :clap3:

I love Doja, but I can imagine Coco is a dream to work with…newer artists are always so much easier to deal with lol.

I could NOT STAND working in artist mgmt, only did it for a year.  That was enough for me lol.
