“The six-day running total on Super Mario Bros is $224.7M. It would not be shocking, especially how Universal has kept these family pics as wide releases for several months even as they hit PVOD, to see Super Mario Bros hit $500M-$600M at the end of its domestic run.”

If that's only domestic run, imagine the global one :jonny4: I need them to announce the sequel :jonny4:

They need to bring that little star back, he was the highlight of the film. Everytime it appeared on screen my date and I couldn't help but cackle at everything he was saying :dies:

The irony of this overperforming in Europe and underperforming in Asia/Southeast Asia :rip:

I guess Asian people are like "been there, done that"

Maybe the same thing would happen if a Mickey Mouse movie was released, it would be meh in Western countries' box office

I really enjoyed it, it was so cute and full of Easter eggs. I've been a huge Mario fan my whole life so it was so cool seeing it come to life. The animation was incredible! I do agree with those that say it was a bit cramped with everything they were throwing into it but it kinda worked. Yoshi will probably be in the next one and the sequel will FOR SURE be about Super Mario Galaxy, there were too many hints for it to not be that. When Mario and Peach were in the field of fire flowers and she says "there's many galaxies out there to discover" and the Looma being there and winking at the end of the movie.

Can't wait for the introduction of Daisy and others !

China - $11,919,522

Hong Kong - $3,140,290

Taiwan - $3,132,827

Israel - $1,894,625

Indonesia - $1,811,023

Singapore - $1,385,334

India - $609,954

Thailand - $541,218

Vietnam - $448,646

Russia - $393,834

Mongolia - $27,878

Japan - Releases 4/28

South Korea - Releases 4/26

It’s kind of shocking to see, though Japan and South Korea will add at least $100M to the Asian gross. I’m hoping China stay consistent and can at least get to $40M, even though it seems incredibly unlikely.

Saw it today and it was a cute girl! It was a breezy hour and a half and that typically is a good sign to me that something was enjoyable and I wasn't bored out of my mind. Legend Lumalee indeed

The only thing I can for sure say was missing is Princess Daisy, because Peach is cute but cute next to gorgeous...

Is there a reason why it's underperforming in Asian regions? I thought Mario was huge there.

I think Europe is smashing because the movie came out during the Easter Holidays here, so more kids out of school = more tickets.

I don't know about the others but Nintendo/Mario aren't big in India. Maybe some exposure in the metros but that's it.

Saw it yesterday with my brother and we both really enjoyed it. Nothing extraordinary but that’s what I expected. Some on the nose references but overall a fun watch. Was taken by lovely surprise to see it being partially in the real world (and NYC of all places which made it relatable). Visually stunning too.

I went to the cinema on its release day and loved it so much. I was slightly disappointed with Bowser as they turned his character into someone a little bit pathetic in my opinion, it felt exaggerated but loooooved everything. Such a pleasant surprise and I'm glad it is doing fantastic despite the stupid critics.

I mean Bowser's entire personality is pathetic, he tries the same thing in every video game. They just added words and personality to his loserness :dies:

Awful movie. Illumination keeps its streak of trash releases, they clearly can't help themselves.

Avatar 2 smashed in Asia though and outgrossed Avatar 1 in nine Asian countries including India and China

Even Minions 2 outgrossed Minions 1 in Korea, Vietnam and Malaysia

As much as I liked this movie, I still can’t get over the fact that I just complained about “Holding Out For a Hero” a few weeks ago and here we are my god. :deadbanana4:

It is kinda true but I really don't perceive him as a pathetic villain. He obviously isn't the most evil character but... it felt a bit too much in my opinion. Like, writting a whole song for Peach, training to propose to her, etc... :dies:
