It's much more challenging because of the rich cultural infusion & language. Last season with the 1-2-3 punch was exciting, when they had to enter the muddy pond to harvest Lotus flowers was so good. Carrying heavy mattresses & collecting market seafood in Vietnam. As well as riding rickshaw and doing Bhavai dance in India. The landscape was just much more interesting. This season their challenges are so boring.... like cooking egg? soccer ball? throwing rope? They couldn't. This is one of the pandemic seasons and was filmed before Season 35, so it is being aired out of order.
Kamil24 Posted May 2 Posted May 2 damn, sucks to go out because production didn't follow you and got lost

Not to mentioned 2023 is where everybody fully moved on about COVID so they can travel around the world with commercial flights. So while I don't think 36 are a great season I'm kinda surprised this season are not bad with all things considered behind the scenes. This season editing felt more authentic towards the casts and not overly course corrected and sanitized like 34 and 35 did sorry to say.
@michael Posted May 3 Posted May 3 It's not a coincidence that the two strongest teams have a fluent Spanish speaker and this whole season has been in Spanish-speaking countries The other teams actually caught up to the gays once they got to Barbados and the language gap was gone.

Don't four teams have a fluent Spanish speaker? Cesar, Juan, Vinny, and Melissa/Yvonne (I don't know which is which ) But yeah, no surprise they've all made the final 5
Clandestine Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 I kind of want to see the crew that got so lost on a future season of the Amazing Race because they must be another hot mess waiting to happen if it took them so long to catch up. I do feel bad for Angie and Danny but at the same time they did still have a chance. Their lack of physicality forced them to choose a detour where you could only really make up time on teams who made mistakes. I was really impressed by their attitude throughout. The constant positivity grated at times over the season but to keep that up in such a situation is amazing.

To add to this apparently the charter plane they intended to use for 36 didn't work out so they had to completely change the route and scrape together tasks to fill the race. I had such mediocre expectations for this season but it's been better than I thought it would.
KLatz Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Ooh, this last episode pissed me off! My favorite team getting screwed over by production's mistake so hard to the point that it got them eliminated (when they easily could've canceled the elimination and done a double next time) got me HEATED
KLatz Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Their crew got lost for an hour and a half so they were forced to wait at the detour until they just had a crew on-site tell them they could go forward. Ooh, I'm sick!

Ooh, I'm sick! Yeah this seems so unfair! I remember in early seasons teams would get a time credit for production issues. Then we never heard about it again I just assumed things were more smooth with how long this show has been going on.

Apparently producers were still trying to determine what to do when Danny and Angie made it to the pit stop because Phil didn't immediately eliminate them as the last team. That should've been their cue to play it safe, especially if they didn't know all the details of the circumstances at the time.

Ooh, I'm sick! I found Angie and Danny annoying and I'm the #1 hater of non-elimination legs, but this solidifies that they should not have been eliminated this week. Clearly this was an unprecedented situation that the producers had no clear rules for, and were just making it up as they went along. And the most relevant part is this: We had been debriefed by security that morning. And they said, "If you ever feel unsafe, or you lose your crew, make your way to the next location, and wait for your crew to get there." They did exactly what they were told to do and got eliminated for it. Terrible on production's part. 1 1
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted May 4 ATRL Moderator Posted May 4 I'm a week behind, but Vinny is such a toxic asshole. I hope Amber dumps his ass.

bluevelvetcrowbar Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I hope Angie and Danny get asked to do next season cause they were screwed BAD by that dumbass crew and payola them to top 6 as well cause I truly thought they'd at least get to top 3/4 as the underdog team dndjdjd
shelven Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Yeah that elimination was a MESS from a production standpoint. You don't even need to do a sudden non-elimination leg to solve the issue. Just keep track of how long Danny/Angie had to wait for their crew to come back and then impose that as a time "penalty" on the second last team before they can check in on the mat. Such a simple solution The contract they sign when they get on the show must have such an airtight "our game calls are final and we can do whatever we want" clause because I'd absolutely be considering suing the show if I were them
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted May 8 ATRL Moderator Posted May 8 Finally watching last week’s episode and wow, what a shitty situation for Danny and Angie. I’m not sure it was the right decision for them to keep driving onto the detour and just hoping the crew would catch up, but they were between a rock and hard place. They should not have been eliminated for something that wasn’t their fault.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted May 8 ATRL Moderator Posted May 8 I struggle to get behind Ricky and Cesar, because I do find them somewhat annoying, but I can’t deny how incredibly impressive their consistency is. Are they one of the best teams to ever run the race or is their competition just that lackluster?

I feel like it's a combo of lackluster competition + post covid TAR era weirdness (especially since this was filmed in 2022) + easy as hell challenges + them racing in primarily Spanish speaking countries that are letting them dominate this hard thus far Edited May 8 by bluevelvetcrowbar

They read instructions thoroughly, navigate well and complete tasks quickly. They are undeniably great at this admittedly reduced version of the race. I do have to give it up to them.
Clandestine Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 It's so interesting at the start of every episode how Amber and Vinny have clearly reflected on the previous leg but Vinny never seems to honestly believe he's at fault. It'll be such a shock if Ricky and Cesar don't win. The other teams seem alright but nothing compared to them.
Exzime. Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Why is there no equalizer in this season.....? Usually there's always a stop where all teams have to wait for certain thing to open.
Clandestine Posted May 18 Author Posted May 18 21 hours ago, Exzime. said: Why is there no equalizer in this season.....? These days they just release the teams at whatever time of day so that everything is open and the legs are so short that they never go for multiple days. Another aspect of the race from prior seasons that's been lost that made the travel feel more real. A predictable finale. I felt the first half of the season was fun but the second half was a drag. Looking forward to the next one which should be much better.
KLatz Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Yeah, happy Ricky and César won because they deserved it after their dominate run, but the back half of the season was a bit of the slag. Thankfully, this will be the last Covid season so hopefully we can get harder tasks and more diverse locations next time around. Also, bring back the U-Turns and more race dynamics that shuffle up/equalize the field.
