Just read her interview in The Guardian: “This is a very different song for me,” says Petras. “It didn’t feel exciting to do another round of artificial pop. It felt like the craziest thing I could do was strip back and sing a song with a guitar lead and just my voice.” It marks a shift, Petras thinks, in her confidence and presentation: “I’m learning how to be myself more as well – from trying to get everyone to like me to being unapologetic in who I am.” Yeah, this doesn't ring true or authentic. Kim has always talked about being unapologetic in her love for superficial trashy pop music. On the contrary, this new song feels inauthentic as an attempt to make her sound more palatable to the mainstream straight gp. And I don't know why she's making it out to be this deep confessional work, the lyrics make no sense.
LCTV Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Never thought I'd have the words " If Jesus was a rockstAR " stuck in my mind.
Afterglow Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 13 hours ago, Tropical said: Couldn't agree more! She's always doing a new take, she doesn't do the same thing over and over, Clarity sounds different to Problematique sounds different to Malibu/Coconuts/IJWAR. She's switching it up like f****ts, we love to see it. I feel you!!! It's such a sad song at its heart. She's singing about how she'd love to feel the unconditional love of god, the community the church can offer, and how her life might have been a lot easier and less lonely if the Christian church had been more accepting and welcome to a trans girl. Jesus is so gate kept I fear. I think these days people are very proud to be athiest and think they're edgy and religion is old fashion and the root of all problem, but I'd kind of counter that with believing in nothing and pursuing spiritually empty self-satisfying lives are what truly lead to unhappiness and misery. Kim hit the nail on the head. (this whole comment was poorly phrased but whatever - I just get the song and it certainly has some layers, it's not just "tehe let's make a controversy with religion." There is a genuine yearning for faith and the benefits that come from having strong religious beliefs, but she's felt excluded.) The irony here. But sis the song is literally parodying religion. Lyrically she's clearly saying traditional religion doesn't align with her beliefs and lifestyle and she's basically found "new religion" in accepting her own ways of life unapologetically.
DuffStan Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 It's good. I hope people check for her since the Unholy slayage.
Boysdontcry Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Ok, I've switched! This is not a bad song, it's definitely not got the instant hit sound of Coconuts, but it's grown on me & I'm enjoying it. In terms of the GP, it seems they don't care at all. & I cannot believe Kim & Sam both skipped the EMAs! This would've been a great opportunity to put on a killer performance of Unholy. And Kim could've done promo for Jesus, maybe even had a performance, they booked her last year!

Yep, a performance at the EMAs would have been nice considering last year she performed two songs that weren't even out yet. Actually, one of the two songs performed is still unreleased. Plus, they also won a category so it could have been a plus for them to perform.
brooklyndaddy Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Awww a nice little buzz single to tide us over until the real lead! She’s so sweet for giving us a gift for the fans
Europe Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Why are they not sending it to radio? It's inoffensive, radio-friendly, easy to listen to. You'd think they made her release a song like this to promote her but that is not happening.
Nefertiti0 Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 https://www.elle.com/culture/music/a41953457/kim-petras-spiritual-enlightenment-playlist/ “There’s a narrative [thread] from “Unholy” to “If Jesus Was a Rock Star,” Kim Petras explains, “but the new song is about how if religion accepted everyone, then maybe I would’ve been a religious person. I just never had the chance.” While the two tracks form a cohesive statement, they mark somewhat of a departure for the pop artist, both subject-matter-wise and sonically. “It’s the first time I’m not being a caricature version of myself, like in **** Pop or Turn Off the Light,” she says of the guitar-driven single. “I’m just sharing my real opinion and how I feel in the world as a person.”

She’s not interesting enough as an individual
Alt Facts Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) Crying at her describing this song about doing c*caine w Jesus in the bathroom as an exploration of her faith Edited November 15, 2022 by Alt Facts
Lady Claire Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 She said she would release tons of new music at the top of 2023, has the singles ready and just needs to finish the songs from the album. We'll see if that happens after that massive tank but she can always add Unholy and do a quick DJ single to inflate album streams 22 minutes ago, Alt Facts said: Crying at her describing this song about doing c*caine w Jesus in the bathroom as an exploration of her faith Camp queen

I’m curious to hear the German version I can’t think of German lyrics that would fit the Chorus that would stay somewhat true to the English version but we’ll see I would love for her to collab with a German band like Tokio Hotel or Kraftklub on the German Version maybe that could be her moment in her Homecountry
