I think a single would alienate the GP interest in her. She’d pick the wrong one and no one would give the album a chance. Meanwhile, they’ve been streaming Don’t Blame Me for AGES now. A song Taylor never would’ve made a single. Same with Cruel Summer. Let everyone discover their favorite songs on album release week, Swifties can suffer without a single for a few weeks.

Even when the GP picks a single for her, she ignores the song. Just look at what happened with Folkore. Justice for Exile and August ?

I have to say i'm warming up to the concept if she's doing this every night

The way we had the Evermore titles for like 12 hours and Twitter detectives still heavily pushed a theory in that timeframe that Dorothea and Marjorie were about these random kids who got kidnapped in the 1800s who happened to have the same names

I think i finally gave up, its gonna be another 1-single era.. shes just greedy for a high first week debut and #1 debuts on both H100+B200 in release week

This is actually a good point :rip:

Maybe everything will work out after all with no pre-single. I mean, I do want one with the album just so she can collect that Hot 100 #1, but seeing the reactions from people and then making more educated guesses on the next singles could actually really work. It worked out perfectly for Bad Bunny, so perhaps if TikTok is really invested this time and the album resonates with people it can have multiple tracks do well at the same time. Who knows, at this point her success and her trajectory is so unpredictable we can’t possibly have a clue what will happen :jonny2:

What’s the point of having remixes on the target album if there isn’t a single before release tho.. like??

I’m manifesting the title reveal for track 2 tonight aka the future best song on the album :celestial5:

I have to say, from a commercial standpoint I’m much more interested to see if this album as a whole can really resonate with everyone. She already has great album track streams, but it’s because they accumulate over time. It could be next level this time around with TikTok and GP’s help. I’m more interested in the prospect of the whole album being consumed heavily (like a Bad Bunny situation where multiple songs do well and the album as a whole, but it doesn’t have a massive #1 smash) than having one big focus single (like an EOM or AIW)

No lead single probably means she wants to push this as a whole body of work all at once again, which is actually exciting. And could actually produce great results since she’s the best example of an album artist in this age. Of course it’s not like I expect Midnights to perform like Bunny’s album on streaming, lol that’s impossible. But just something in that vein where the whole album is consumed heavily enough that one single song doesn’t need to smash, would be wonderful.

Taylor sits at her 1970s vanity, brushing her long flowing locks, softly singing “I promise that you’ll never find another one like me-ee-ee,” as she gazes into the looking glass. A “hi-tech” randomiser made from the gold of her fan’s gifts to her lays motionless on the polished surface, as Joe continues to work in the basement, meticulously painting on the numbers to a new set of thirteen ping pong balls. As Taylor picks up her phone, she yells with a cackle, “Riddle me this, f******!” before pressing post to her latest pre-recorded Tik Tok.

I don't understand the meltdowns. She did similar things to this with revealing the 1989 lyrics and in other eras

:clap3: Very well said. I agree wholeheartedly.

Wait now that it's been pointed out, it's a kii how the GP always picks a favorite song from her albums that clearly should have been the lead/second single (Don't Blame Me, Cruel Summer, August) that she paid complete dust to :dies:  But it's honestly hard to know if they would have performed as well had they been singles, because there's also somewhat of an underdog "what could've been" appeal to them when people compare them to the songs that were chosen as singles over them

I just hope this is actually like…..good. The Lore albums were fine but boring. I just hope she works with a different palette of sounds/songwriting this time

dont make fun of me but I really want this to be the 2022 version of 1989. Or SOMETHING in that vein.

Yeah I think I've come to terms with the fact that we're not getting a lead single this era. She's gonna drag out this Blue's Clues nonsense til October 21st and that's about all the promo we're gonna get before release week. It's such a shame because the charts are literally dead right now and she could've easily snatched a multiweek #1 (while blocking Hagrid from the top spot as well). At least she stopped dressing like a milkmaid to public events and we got cute red carpet looks so there's always that I guess...

so you are telling me that this could have been another surprise release but her ass decided to milk her fans with preorders vinyls and clocks?

I don’t want this album to sound anything like 1989 reputation OR Lover. Which honestly none of those 3 sound like each other so I’m sure this one won’t sound like any of those either.
