Taylor Swift - ‘Midnights’

Why do I feel like she hasn't pulled out the big guns yet (aside from the signed CDs)?

Imagine if she had the time and energy to sign all the vinyl variants. Whew!

I think we haven't even seen the beginning of it yet. With a tour incoming, this wont be a lowkey era. I assume she'll be everywhere the entire holiday season!

Congrats, Taylor - you just led me to cancel my entire pre-order. Don't get me wrong, I'll be streaming, but I'm not here for the desperate sales gimmicks this time.   :clap3:

How is it a desperate sales gimmick, when it’s pretty much industry standard. If you’re a big fan of the artist or you collect vinyl, then you’re welcome to purchase them but no one is duping or manipulating you into spending money that you end up regretting later lol

Pretty much every artist on a label releases different colored vinyls that’s not a sales gimmick it’s just a variety of the product so people who might wanna buy it but don’t like the visual appearance can have an alternative option :rip:

I think it’s the first time that all the colors are on retail stores. I wish it was on Amazon so international fans could enjoy, like myself.

As many have pointed out already, people make it a thing with Taylor's editions because unlike other artists, hers actually sell. But in reality everyone does this, she just happens to be the only one doing it successfully :michael:

I mean why not Amazon? If Walmart and Target yes? It’s just annoying! If they went all in so go all in! :(

Wait I need these on Amazon so I can save that shipping fee :jonny:

I guess you can't consider it a sales gimmick if it doesn't sell

You could also keep your pre-order AND buy another set of Midnights on Amazon to save on the shipping fee.

This way you'll get BOTH the versions off Taylor's store AND shipping fee saving

These 'limited editions' have been available for quite some time now. Do we think it's because they're selling very well and they want to maximize sales or maybe they had a lot of stock left after that one week? :swan:

I dunno. Ask Taylor since she's still selling her "One week only!" Folklore variants as of last week.

It's a desperate sales gimmick when they're advertised as "1 Week Only!" ... and then "2 Weeks Only!" ... and then "Make a ******* clock with the back covers!" ... oh, and then selling them at Wal Mart and Target with free shipping, after charging your fans excess shipping under the impression their orders were time-limited.

Don't be ******* dense. Take your stan goggles off and admit it's annoying. I won't even bring up the private jets. Promise.

I would assume they aren't selling that well if she has to extend the "limited time" multiple times and give them to all the retailers, although that could of always been the plan and she just knows that any backlash would be very minor. In the Taylor echo chamber that we're in, it seems like everybody is buying 4 copies, but what incentive is there for the GP to buy anything. There's no single, no real news besides Jack is back and that doesn't really excite anyone.

Do we think Taylor's desperate for that 5th week on chart to pull these money grabbing gimmicks? Like, different covers and different colored vinyl are something only someone that's chart obsessed would do :swan: I'm starting to think Taylor's a capitalist

I mean, the GP isn't the target audience for different covers (or CDs/vinyl in general)and they definitely don't visit her website. If there really is that much stock left, she should just sign them and I'm sure they'd sell then

This was likely always going to happen. Limited time offers that end up coming back later are also a standard to drive up sales. You buy or not at your own will, no one is forcing you to

As a longtime fan, taking my “stan goggles off” I literally don’t see anything wrong with it. I don’t care if she tells me something is only on sale for one week, one day, or one minute — if I don’t have the money to buy it, I won’t. I’m not sure what more there is to it than that.

McDonald’s brings the McRib back “for a limited time only” like 4 times a year when it was originally just a one time thing. Like, get over it, it’s how capitalism works, and if you’re anti capitalist well that’s a whole other discussion to have and Taylor alone doesn’t even comprise a fraction of the depth that conversation would entail.

I bought 3 vinyl from her site because I couldn’t spare the extra change for a fourth copy. I haven’t bought any of the CD’s and I won’t be buying the Target or Walmart releases because they’re reductive (well, I might get the Lavender Target vinyl we’ll see lol) but I don’t buy any merch from her* (since reputation era, her best merch ever me thinks) because I’m not just throwing money at every single thing she puts out. In fact most of the **** she puts on her site I couldn’t care less about.

But I love collecting vinyl, I have a great paying job, and she’s my favorite artist; so I have no issue with owning multiple copies of the same album.

If I didn’t buy physical music, didn’t have much spare income, and just listened to Taylor casually, I wouldn’t feel like her sales tactics are corrupt in the slightest, I wouldn’t even care about them at all because I’d just go with the free option of streaming.

I don't have a problem with her selling multiple variants. I collect variants from my faves all the time, including Taylor. She got me during Folklore. I still have a sealed orange Reputation. That's not the issue.

My problem is the false marketing. Telling fans they only have 1 week (with a live countdown) to buy "webstore exclusives", that suddenly turn into 2 weeks, then 3 weeks if you buy a $50 clock mount~, then are suddenly available everywhere else for a cheaper price. Fans can save anywhere from $10-30 on shipping *alone* by canceling those "time sensitive" webstore pre-orders. She's using FOMO to get more money out of her fans' pockets.

Of course I'm aware purchasing is voluntary, of course I understand it's a sales tactic, it doesn't make it any less slimy or corny to me. Make it available everywhere all at once. She'll still get those sales - I don't get why she does this.

I have a feeling it is selling really good and not the other way around. I don't know why, that's what I think. AGAIN, PLEASE PUT IT ALL ON AMAZON ALSO :(
