Jaspurr Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I like to be able to fully get into a lead single before the album release, even if it's a pile of dog **** like the Lover one. I just hate the feeling of 'hm, this is a good/bad choice, lemme get back to streaming the album itself.' Taylor cannot do this to me for the third time in a row.
smholiv Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 for a while I was expecting something this coming friday thursday, sept 22 is the first day of autumn/autumn equinox and coincidentally 9+2+2 = 13 so there's some kind of lining up .

Holiest Dreams Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 If there’s no pre release single it’ll still work out fine, she can push a song on album release and two more over the course of winter and spring. And let’s not forget Bunny and Drake’s (CLB) albums had that release strategy and smashed. I mean, I do want a lead single though. She can break records if it comes this week or next week (…save the discourse on whether it’ll be frontloaded, I’m obviously talking initially - and releasing it around 4 weeks before the album will ensure some level of longevity even if it is frontloaded since the album boost will help tremendously)

I think the no pre-single obv worked perfectly for folklore, evermore and Red TV (though ATW10 dropping the week prior would’ve been nice, which I think was initially planned before A word messed up the original release date?) But 100% she should release a proper lead this time. It’ll work out if she doesn’t (as I just said above) but it would still be the best for fans and it would help drive preorders, contrary to what some people are saying that the mysterious thing is the best. It’s already getting old, so! Also, if she really wants that 4th simultaneous single and album #1 debut, she can just push a second single alongside the album and drop physicals for it to get it if either the lead is still too strong to beat or if it’s just not close enough without them. Would be ideal anyway since that’s 2 #1s easy Edited September 20, 2022 by Holiest Dreams

He smashing doesn't mean others can smash too. Pushing a song after the album release will be 100% harder, specially for Taylor who struggles to get hits.

CLB had amazing longevity though and it had several cute hits. Not smashes but who cares when the album did well. And yes BB is the biggest streaming act but… Taylor is the closest behind him It’s also becoming much easier to get post release hits in the streaming era with the way tiktok dominates the industry and such. Point is that she can still work it fine even with that strategy. No pre-release single doesn’t mean she won’t push multiple singles over the 6-12 months. But as I said just below that post, I agree she should have a prerelease. The mysterious shtick is working for now but it’s time for a single before that gets stale. But all hope isn’t lost even if we don’t get one. Edited September 20, 2022 by Holiest Dreams

It's just that the era could be so much bigger if she released a single before the album and focus on having a hit.
By the Water Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 She's not gonna lose pre-orders even if the lead is bad so I see no reason not to release one

RuflesCando Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 She's clearly an album artist, and I think she has noticed that and is also acting upon it. She's noticing how hard is for her songs to sustain themselves at #1 and her writing is not! getting any dumber to please the masses! She still wants the placements ofc but I think she'll start to play for her strengths rather than against them. Her catalog is immense and all of it has a good streaming life, that's why there isn't any super duper smash 1b streams hits, the competition is coming from inside the house. If she doesn't release a single up to the album release it will basically be a statement saying "listen to the album, the single is a formality". If she edges the fanbase (and let's be honest, there's demand for it also coming from the streets) then she'll get the hit she wants for a few weeks (let's say she releases it on the 30th or the 7th) and then when the album drops the song will be benefited by the new wave of interest to die down some weeks later and the whole collective work picks up on its afterlife to shine. Either way, I don't think there will be more than one, we are not in 1989 era anymore and I doubt the sound will be completely radio-friendly either.
Nick_317 Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Manifesting a documentary about the making of the album just like rep/ lover/ folkore
MardinBeksloy Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 So are we getting something other than another vinyl variant this Friday??

That's a heavy emphasis on the making of it, specialling getting a trade involved. Basically, the whole marketing strategy for the album so far consists of: 1. having a cover; 2. having different covers; 3. the covers forming a clock; 4. the fact that the album was made at some point by at least two people, one of them being the singer

discotitzz Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 (edited) Do we think there’s any merit to the idea that “Meet Me At Midnight” is a song title? Or more a tagline for the era like, “there will be no explanation, just reputation”? Spoiler I am leaning towards the latter Edited September 20, 2022 by discotitzz
