Taylor Swift - ‘Midnights’

There’s a theory going around that the colors represent past album eras and the amount of numbers on the back of the albums represent how many songs from each of the eras.

Cool idea. I like vault tracks. Stevie Nicks albums always have/had songs written from years before that she reworked on her albums. Her 24 Karat Gold album is her vault album full of fan favorite demos from decades before.

Pretty sure the colors represent the vinyl variants. Anyhow, why has it been so hard for some Swifties to believe their fave, who has said countless times she never stops writing, actually made new songs for her brand new album:biblio:

I’m cautiously optimistic about the album because she saw the overwhelmingly positive response from the gp with ATW10 so fingers crossed she’s abandoned any ill-conceived attempt to score bubblegum number 1s.

Another thing I find promising is that the album is relatively short. Although this sadly means less music, it indicates she’s confident in what she’s included on the album. Hopefully there’s minimal to no filler. Following both folklore and evermore, while critics were generally very impressed, one criticism that kept crawling back in was that the albums felt overstuffed and dragged slightly (I don’t agree btw). Perhaps (hopefully) she’s listened to this and has produced a 40-something-minute-all-killer-no-filler-premium-quality musical experience.

She's always been a prolific writer, her albums are usually overstuffed. I could cut songs from all of the with ease, but i imagine this process it's three times more difficult to her. I'd love an album with few but lengthier tracks. Doesn't seem to be the case for midnights but one can hope

I freaking hate how people think Taylor Swift will release an album of old demos. It makes my blood boil.

Why is it that the people who try to pretend Taylor makes bad music are always fans of Brit or Rih, two of the least talented artists in the history of recorded music :rip:  the irony is lost on me

These are definitely not old songs :rip:

She will most likely talk about old experiences/topics since she specifically said they are “13 sleepless nights throughout my life” but I don't think any of them are vault tracks. She can maybe steal a line or two from scrapped songs or demos, but that's totally normal and common for actual songwriters. She's done it before with You All Over Me and Clean.

This :deadbanana2:

We are literally in the midst of getting rerecordings with a bunch of vault tracks and people think her 10th, brand new studio album, will be comprised of old demos. Absolutely NOT.

Like she cares about 10. She cares about 13.

She could release a song written 10 years ago and not tell you and you would cream yourself over a “new” song.

And yet, as a songwriter constantly writing songs with an outlet for releasing her songs written years ago (the vault) … she wouldn’t do that. It’s so obvious. Like, we’d know if there’s a song about her first breakup written as a 17 year old versus being written as a 32 year old reflecting back. See cardigan versus Forever & Always, very obvious differences in syntax there.

I’m not sure why you’d want old songs on a new album when we can get those old songs on the re-recorded albums

The easter eggs thing MELTED people's brains omg :deadbanana4:

The wildest part is how her every move is hyper-analyzed for hints when in reality the only easter eggs that actually exist are obvious af like this giant ass Lover billboard in the ME! video hinting the title

right, the complete stupidity. why would she even do that when she's already doing the from the vault thing? it's obvious she just meant midnights is comprised of songs written about important moments throughout her life and not written during those times

This just makes me excited for the album. Also, something like what Phoebe recorded for Joe's TV show would be cute. Can't remember what it's called, but it does sound dreamy

Same. The way I've played this video over 10 times already.

Honestly it wouldn’t be a bad idea riding your dick ?

I know it’s tiring at this point, but I just like to mess with you Teneo, don’t take it personally ?

I’m just trying to make sense with her choice of words in the announcement. I don’t know why this caused so much commotion, when this thread (and the whole fanbase) is full of ridiculous theories. This one at least came from the words she chose and not some random clock in a random lyric video.

I personally don’t care if we get one or not. I can wait or I can enjoy anything she decides to put out. It’s not about commercial success for me it’s just about the musical experience, and if I have to wait to hear the album in full well I’ve done that three times for her now, I can do it a fourth.

She said the songs are from things that kept her up at night throughout her life, so they most likely are ideas she had a long time ago but she's only working on them right now, likely with a particular soundscape that will set it apart from whatever album she was working on back then
