Taylor Swift - ‘Midnights’

Taylor is one of the few artists that could release nothing prior to the album dropping and still be fine. In fact, the hype will be insane by Oct 21st if she still hasn’t released anything. :deadbanana2:

I’m fairly confident in my new prediction of 800k. When the album was announced I said 700k, but 800k feels totally doable now. 1M is still a tall order, one that may just be nearly impossible with today’s climate.

Omg! The album leaked in full and here is the description of the tracks:

- The album is divided into uptempos (before midnight) and downtempos (after midnight)

- Opener is a bad ***** anthem featuring CupcakKe and sexually explicit lyrics where Taylor demands that you be "fearless" when pounding her punani, "speak now" if you want to switch positions, and leave her "red" from friction. There is also a clever pun with "1989" and "69".

- Side 2 opens with an Emotional power ballad about a lost love where she uses female pronouns in a controversial wink to her long-presumed bisexuality. Featuring backing vocals from Harry Styles.

- The second single, a trap-jazz fusion, will have a remix featuring Beyonce, Adele, Drake, Leona Lewis, Carly Rae Jepsen and a digital recreation of Amy Winehouse's vocals

- The last song on the album was changed recently to a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, the only person known to have a higher private jet usage than Taylor. "You had the crown but now you're in the ground, tell me who flies higher now?"

- The title track "Midnight" features percussion from a sample of the sound that her bed makes when Joe is pile driving her

- The CD version features a never before seen feature where if it's detected that the record is being copied without authorization a complex chemical reaction will initiate that turns the polycarbonate in the CD material into a bomb that will instantly kill anyone in a 10 metre radius

- The vinyl material used for the vinyl version of the album is a special kind that takes four times as long to biodegrade and is also unable to be recycled

excited for Oct 21 :jonnycat:

Since we're definitely not getting a single this week, I'm perched for the signed CDs at midnight!

just found out that there are 16 letters in "meet me at midnight". It's still possible for a single this Friday

where do we think Midnights will land on IFPI? I know Taylor will probably be the #1 female artist (maaaybe #1 overall? I’m not sure) but my guess is Midnights will probably only land around 4-7 on the album list, if that

Just a few hours until the lead single announcement :bam:

As a chart obsessor I honestly can’t even predict it :deadbanana: there’s going to be a massive influx of Kpop albums in both charts (but especially the pure sales one) this year. Something about KCharts changing how they submit sales or maybe IFPI changed sumn I can’t remember. With only 9 weeks I guess she could end up top 10 on the overall album chart and for sure top 10 on the pure sales one which will both be super impressive.

I think she has a shot this year to reclaim #1 overall on the artist chart because BTS didn’t drop big English singles and their compilation album wasn’t really that big. I’d say it’s 60/40 or so unlike 2020/2021 where it was nearly impossible (though the gap then was still small). But if not then hopefully in 2023 or 2024 :chick1:

Btw 9/23 really is THE perfect date for the lead single :giraffe:

- Clear of BP’s song and album (which would eat into her audience potential if they released at the same time, though it also applies vice versa)

- One month before the album, enough time to push another song on album release week. If the lead is a hit then pushing another one won’t harm it and it’ll just get overshadowed like Late Night Talking by AIW or OMG by EOM.
- No big releases that we know of

- Lewis Capaldi’s physicals for his song doesn’t ship until the 30th so she’ll likely be able to snatch the #1 in the UK still since his song isn’t smashing that hard and will take time to grow

- NSAI awards on 9/20, as long as she goes it’ll be an event for her

- In general, it’s the perfect midpoint between the album announcement date and album release date, plus if she does have magazine covers dropping with teaser info for the album she’ll likely need a song to be out

But because it’s such a perfect date it won’t happen :coffee2:

ugh i miss when there was active clowning during wednesday/thursday midnights. it feels like we’ve all given up :deadbanana:

The perfect date for a single was either the 26th of August or the week after but oh well. If nothing comes by the end of the month we're probably not getting anything until the album comes out

I just think it’s a bizarre rollout… announce the title and cover and then nothing but pre orders for weeks :deadbanana2: I know there’s still time until release date but I just find it weird

I think her release strategy is fine and obviously more hype builds as we wait weeks and weeks to know how the album will sound. We should be thankful she’s one of the few artists who can quite literally earn hype from doing next to nothing :rip:

I wonder if Amazon will put theirs up soon. I also wonder if Urban Outfitters is going to get some sort of exclusive vinyl.

If all the retailers set up preorders Adele’s gig cancelling wig will not be safe :rip:

why does this thread have 150 pages of useless information that is better suited for the Taylor Swift base thread

Every time I come in here thinking a song has dropped, but people are talking about outfits and re-recordings

If rumors of BP passing 3M preorders before album release is true they might end up snatching the #1 album of the year.

All I know is the only threat to Midnights on the chart will be Adele, Blackpink and the Bad Bunny album.

With regards to BP i absolutely agree. Born Pink is probably the only album this year that Im sure will outsell Midnights in the calendar year.

A lot of TS and BP stans overlap especially in key Asian markets like the Philippines, TS and BP are basically the 2 biggest streaming forces there and Taylor would be wise to avoid them to maximize the hype for her own release without BP cannibalizing a portion of it.

Hmm I feel like something is coming with the preorders all going up. For example or also went up for sale at the biggest retailer in Australia finally. Could be wrong tho

The whole thing is 'Meet me at Midnight'. Every bit of news and all the announcements have been at midnight even from Target and Wal-mart. It makes no sense for Taylor to break that now.
