How do you have 50 movies across entirely different plots and timelines and manage to make them all creatively bankrupt and forgettable? At least we got Vegetabelle: Cremation out of it The GODjuring 1 & 2 are top tier tho. Valak despite having tragic spinoff movies remains a main horror villain with just one good movie. 1
zasderfght Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 (edited) I truly don't get the hate for The Conjuverse. The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 were well-crafted horror films and the jump scares felt earned. Almost every horror movie has jump scares... even movies that use atmosphere or a subtle/more quiet score to scare audiences. Or even the story itself. I also thought Annabelle: Creation was pretty scary. And this is coming from a person that truly doesn't scare easily. The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring 3 were pure trash, so you can hate on that one. It's a shame because the ghost tale itself is really good. Annabelle was also pretty awful. Also, keep in mind this universe might share writers or directors across multiple films, but not every Conjuverse film has the same director. The Nun was OK. I'd rank the films as follows, and I'll be seeing The Nun II before it gets pulled from Dolby theaters: 1. The Conjuring 2. The Conjuring 2 3. Annabelle: Creation 4. The Nun 5. Annabelle 6. The Curse of La Llorona 7. The Conjuring 3 (This movie is so bad, I genuinely forgot it existed until I looked up all The Conjuring Universe movies to make sure I didn't miss any-- lo and behold I missed the worst one). Have you not seen Annabelle Comes Home? I've yet to see The Curse of La Llorona but here's my (most likely) controversial listing. Excluding the ones I haven't seen. What I mentioned and The Nun 2. 1. The Conjuring 2 2. The Conjuring 3. Annabelle: Creation 4. The Conjuring 3 5. Annabelle Comes Home 6. The Nun 7. Annabelle 1

killer_rose Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Anabelle Bores Home is probably the second worst movie in the franchise tho. That movie gave absolutely nothing. 3
Heldenzeit Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Annabelle: Creation is the favorite of the franchise for me. Thought that one was great! 1
KanMap Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Just got back from the cinema. It’s even worse than the first one 1
Lord Gaga Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 I genuinely thought this one was better than the first at least it had a coherent plot and the violence especially towards Spoiler Children Was a bit shocking. Also had a cute stand out scene Spoiler With the magazines 1

The first two Conjuring movies are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and that doesn't happen by accident. The spin-offs are undoubtedly weaker than The Conjuring movies, and you can make the argument The Curse of La Llorona, Annabelle, and The Conjuring 3 are genuinely terrible, but Annabelle: Creation was pretty decently made. Annabelle Comes Home was not at all scary, but it was a decently-told Halloween-themed horror movies. That being said, great avi. I love Drag Me to Hell. And I love The Evil Dead (original) and Evil Dead 2.

genetic fail Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 (edited) Just got out of the cinema and this was pretty decent. The jumpscares in the middle were a little too repetitive but it was saved by its action-packed final act. I wish some side characters were developed more but it is what it is. Can someone explain the mid-credit scene? Edited September 10, 2023 by genetic fail
genetic fail Posted September 10, 2023 Author Posted September 10, 2023 The Conjuring 2 The Conjuring Annabelle Comes Home Annabelle: Creation The Nun II The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Annabelle The Nun La Llorona
FailSafe Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Anabelle (the first one) is THE WORST horror movie I've seen in my entire life. I'm not even joking.

I also actually kinda enjoyed Vegetabelle Grows Mold, it's a fun little Halloween romp like you said! But the series taken as a whole is just so pedestrian - it never attempts a single interesting or new thing. Other subpar horror series had some sparks of inspiration at some point through their run.

But the series taken as a whole is just so pedestrian - it never attempts a single interesting or new thing. Other subpar horror series had some sparks of inspiration at some point through their run. That's a fair point-- I wish Annabelle, The Nun, The Curse of La Llorona, and The Conjuring 3 were much better. I will say, though, that most horror franchises are very hit-or-miss in terms of quality. Take a look at The Exorcist series. Only the first movie is any good. Emily Rose is a bore, The Exorcist II is a bore, horror fans go crazy over The Exorcist III, but, if you ask me, it's pretty wooden and actually not scary. The prequel was also awful. Even though David Gordon Green has a spotty track record, I hope The Exorcist: The Believer is at least the franchise's best sequel/requel/follow-up. A Nightmare on Elm Street has only two good movies: the first and New Nightmare. Remake was horrible. Freddy vs. Jason was extremely disappointing. With Friday the 13th, even the original isn't that great (sorry!); I might even prefer Part 6 to it. But, again, F13 is a franchise that doesn't have a single good movie, but Part 6 is pretty fun. Child's Play isn't consistent (quality-wise), either. The original is OK-- I actually prefer the remake with Aubrey Plaza-- but I don't care for any of the sequels/spin-offs, except for Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky. Halloween only has the original and the 2018 requel/remake. H20 is okay, but that's it. Scream is one of the rare horror movies that has 2 bad sequels (3 and 4). Similar to Evil Dead. I just didn't care for the remake, and Army of Darkness is decent, but I'm really here for "horror," and The Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise scratch more of that itch.
leyaris11 Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Guys, "The Curse of Flop Llorona" is not a part of The Conjuring universe. Stop including ha with miss Valak and baby Annabelle. 1
GeminiCat Posted September 10, 2023 Posted September 10, 2023 Seen it last night in Dolby. This one is an improvement over the first movie but still a lot of the same pacing issues plagues it first 2/3 through like the original. Thrilling final act saved it. Spoiler Warrens coming to save the day for the finale.
