Need to revisit Evil Dead 2013, but I am SO HYPE for this. Are there any other horror releases this year that look as promising as this does?

Well we only have a few trailers out but these are the other ones I'm looking forward to:

Plus A24's Talk to Me which doesn't have a trailer yet.

Saw X and The Exorcist remake too are coming out this year but not too hopeful about those.

I read that this ain’t a sequel or prequel but since I’ve never seen any movie from the franchise and that both Evil Dead (1981 and 2013) are on HBOMax which one should I see?

It is a sequel, the entire franchise is in one universe, I'd watch both of them in order of release, they're all you need to watch this one (also I personally hate 2 and Darkness lol) but technically you can watch this without any of them since it's a new story (there's def easter eggs or a cameo or smth I'm guessing though)

@HungryByTheBuffet oh ok cool, I’ll start with the 81’ one and then try to pick up from there, thanks!

won't be watching this after my experience with Evil Dead '13, but I can't wait to HEAR about some of the insane kills :keir:

I wanna watch this, but ‘13 caused me to have recurring severe nightmares and sleep paralysis about the demon in that one, so maybe I should sit this one out :rip:

the fact that this now has a 73 on Metacritic which is basically acclaim for this kind of film… damn

This definitely has the M3GAN effect. It seemed like critics were ready to hate on these films since they seem so dime-a-dozen, but both this and M3GAN are a hit with critics. I really liked M3GAN (although it took me a second viewing to truly appreciate all of it, honestly), and I have no doubt I'll like this movie.

I hated the director's previous movie The Hole in the Ground, but the story didn't do that film any favors. At least with Evil Dead, it's a bit easier to make a movie where people are possessed by spirits from a book and turn cannibalistic/violent towards their human counterparts entertaining. If it's not scary, at the very least it'll be visually appealing and very grotesque and gruesome.

I'm seeing this at a Dolby Atmos tomorrow evening, so I am SUPER pumped!
