Yes the movie sucks but after getting what it's really about and seeing how pressed these neckbearded straight men are I'm kinda living for it.

Just got back from the cinema.

I feel like I don't really get the hate for this film? It's far from perfect, but it does not deserve this low score.

I get some of the criticism - Gaga was under utilised, the character felt underdeveloped with barely any backstory. But she did the most she could with what she was given.

Some of the musical numbers were pointless, and I would have preferred some dialogues in those instances

Spoiler

such as when Lee says she's pregnant. It would've been more impactful to have a dialogue there, then her starting to sing.

The cinematography was amazing throughout. The acting from all of the actors was top notch.

Spoiler

I really enjoyed the courtroom scenes, actually. Especially the closing statement scene from Arthur, taking his mask off, literally. And then the bomb scene.

Not sure how I feel about the ending. I think I understand it, but also feel like it was unnecessary.

Spoiler

I guess this was sort of a statement about the society, and how there is more than one Joker etc.

I believe the whole low rating and the rant it's because they compare it to the first film. Maybe if this was movie released without the first one, it would be better received(?).

Just saw this, it was good, the fumes are forced :dancehall:

Honestly if 95% of the people who talk about it would have really seen it, opening would be at 200M$. Crazy how everyone has an opinion yet the box office is low. Make it make sense.

in a way Gaga being underused is a statement about her career and how she's always expected to put on her own personal mask and deliver something specific and expected to her fans, like any pop star, especially the ones who become really big. therefore by casting her in the movie and placing her in a seat on the background while making her basically whisper her vocals when she's performing is a way of saying a huge **** you to those people / fake fans / the masses and it's kinda genius if you ask me. i know she's back back just because of that. and perfectly casted for the role.

I loved Joker 1.

This was a joke (without the 'R')

So sad to see. I get the backlash, and even if the debuts all around aren't bad in most of the countries (people that loved the first part, went to see this second one, like me)

It will have zero legs.

The movie is that bad.

I cannot believe that Joaquin put up with releasing this after the quality of the first one.

The first one got to 1B with the mouth to mouth effect, and this one will tank because of the same effect, but inverted

I say this wont get to 100M in the US and wont get to 250M WW

the way every review from people is like "i mean it's not that bad. the movie has its obvious flaws but didn't deserve the gate it gets. 4/10"

anyway imagine if the movie is actually great.. so many people irl are talking about movie, the hype was actually there

Saw it. Loved it. I feel like this film is definitely not perfect but very misunderstood cause it has such big shoes to fill and is attached to such iconic supervillain that the general audience just can't enjoy how left-field it is. I'll be interested in the discourse and reevaluation after a few years though, once the hate train is over though. It might just be one of those "controversial movie -> cult classic" situation if we're being optimistic.

I saw it tonight and although I did not like everything about it, I thought it definitely did not deserve the hate train it received this past week. It felt like it was halfway between a passion project and an obligation of Todd Phillips… it's as if he did not necessarily want to make a Joker movie, but while he was at it, he aimed to insert sequences that were wonderful as standalone ideas, but did not always work as part of the Joker world. The plot was also quite thin, but it always had something going on so at least it was never boring, and Gaga and Joaquin did a stellar job with what they were given.

I loved the musical aspect of the movie, but clearly it has taken a few attendees by surprise at my screening who seemingly gave up early on.

Okay...

First weekend REAL numbers are in...

37,6M in the US and 75,4M outside the US = 113M

The previous estimations were 41M and 81M = 121M

The studio was expecting 50M and 100M... = 150M

so that means it's gone from bad... To very bad... To bomb.

What's this twitter stuff I'm reading about Gaga getting roles bc she's with a powerful Jewish man (sadly a Zionist Israel genocide apologist.)  Is this why the movie is so bad?  Bc the movie was made for Gaga? Her bf made it for her?  Is she  really using him for roles?  In what world is Gaga a good actress?  Love her but she needs to be real.  That one movie was ok but way overrated in terms of academy buzz.  but to give her more roles?  Idgi. What am I missing??!!

I know…so many questions.

If the movie was "made for her" then why did they rewrite the script multiple times and cut out a lot of Gaga's scenes? Couldn't her "powerful Jewish man" make her the centre of it all?
