Spoiler for the movie:

the "real" joker killing arthur and it basically being an origin story for heath ledger's TDK joker... what on earth. This will be dragged by comic book fans I fear

Spoiler

I don't think the ending was meant to connect Joker/FAD to TDK since it's an elseworlds story but I can see how it can be interpreted a lot of different ways and for that I think it's kind of smart. Or like, just dumb enough.

It could be saying in this elseworld Arthur was never the "real" joker because he never really blew stuff up and he denounced the character in the end. So what we saw in J/FAD is the precursor to the real joker story we know.

But I think it was trying making a statement about how Joker is not one person or something innate but a socially constructed identity. Like Arthur's defense wanted him to say that he had two personalities but that wasn't really true, because he was able to kill the joker in him after he was traumatized in prison and the bomb went off in the courthouse and he got outside to see the movement for what it really was. Like he had some kind of personal growth I guess and didn't need joker anymore and so he took off the mask.

Also it seemed like the "real joker" was working with police to kill Arthur, and Lee set him up in the end? Like why were the other characters antagonistic in a very cointelpro way I don't get their motivation at all

Half of the theater left early.

This was a boring mess.

What a waste

HALF of your theatre walked OUT from the fan screening?! :deadbanana2:

The plot is weak, it relies TOO MUCH on the first film which ends up becoming boring, the acting and the photography are amazing, the singing is too much at times, specially during the second half, and the first half is kinda boring.

2.5/5 in my opinion

Gaga is amazing tho :gaycat1:mother can do no wrong, truly.

It wasn't a fan screening. It was an early vip screening through my boyfriend's job.

Tbh i was left disappointed with the film :katie: It doesn't seem to know which direction is headed... it's a musical but at the same time it doesn't dive deep into that concept so everything kinda felt surface level, aside of some scenes. As of the plot, it's indeed thin... the whole thing could've been completed on a 20-minute scene, yet they drag for over 2 hours :deadbanana4: There were SO many possibilities for a sequel yet it seems like it doesn't have anything to say

Gaga and Joaquin are brilliant on their roles and did their best, but they can't save it if the screenplay doesn't do any favors. The idea on paper sounded great but the execution was poorly made due to how it was developed. On the other hand, the whole production looked amazing, too bad it was kinda... wasted? Some scenes that i was anticipating were either underwheming or weren't on the film at all.

I'm frustrated. It could've been way more than it is but just isn't because Todd apparently just wanted to do a expensive film with Gaga singing on it. A shame because the 1st one was amazing and so interesting. I wish someone else wrote it :skull:

And btw, the mixed response it's solely bc of Gaga and Joaquin. If they weren't great i'm pretty sure it would be actually panned, so Todd needs to thank them.

But well! That's life! At least it gave us Harlequin and more music from Gaga so i'm happy for that. She deserved better though.

Yes, i'm in with the general consensus here that this movie added nothing new and is basically just a rehash of what happened in the previous movie during all the courtroom scenes. They were long and not interesting at all. The musical part was just way too much and some even came off super silly. The only ones that worked for me were the one with the Joker singing in the courthouse and when Gaga visited the Jail (Close to You). The most excited part of the movie was when Joker was outside the courthouse but that was shortlived! Shame because i waited all year for this.

Some of my thoughts on Lee's development. There's spoilers so be careful when you click.

I wish Lee was Arthur's lawyer, to fall in love with him and get crazy with him. It would make more sense and would explain how she approached deeply on his story rather than just being on a singing class for a

day because he became famous. Her background story was just useless and barely explained, she's just a random fangirl and her final scene gave me Gabriella leaving Sharpay's countryclub on HSM 2 :deadbanana: His lawyer had some important scenes however when he fires her then she just disappears like it's nothing.

And the That's Entertainment scene was horribly cut. She shot on the stairs and then the police came down to get her... i feel like originally she got crazy and couldn't accept that Arthur wasn't Joker. Then she exploded the courtoom and ran away from the police, that got her on the final scene. At least she would go out with a bang and it would give her character more... purpose?

Saw it.

Not awful. I enjoyed it. Def. not a musical for me, so imma have to side with Gaga on that one.

Also, definitely not for everyone, though. I wouldn't be surprised if most people hate it, dd;

The box office will probably sufficient for it to be profitable (hopefully...) but I don't expect the movie to have any legs, so yeah.

I'm not even sure I'd recommend it even though I enjoyed it cause it's such a crazy ass movie :rip:

Damn, our iMax cinema was sadly empty. There were only 3 of us. :rip:

The hype for this film really faded away after the Venice film fest. I feel so sad for Gaga. She deserves better.

Anyway, I'm kinda neutral about the film. I enjoyed some moments in it but in many parts I was confused and I didn't know how to react. I actually don't know how to rate the movie. Incredible acting from Joaquin and Gaga did well too.

I prefer the first half of the film especially when they were still building their relationship. I didn't like the ending at all.

Spoiler

But yeah,I didn't expect Harley to be the actual villain of this Joker film. The lawyer was right, she and the other people who idolize him only care about him as the Joker. Felt really sorry for the character especially at his demise in the end. I really thought him and Harley would have a beautiful wild ending together.

Agreed. TALENTED actors like Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix made an outlandish character like The Joker feel like a believable person grounded in reality. When you cast BAD ACTORS like Jared Leto and Lady Gaga, you're going to get corny, over-the-top, camp-theater-kid performances, so "FàD" will definitely be PANNED by critics, which is unfortunate for Joaquin Phoenix, but then again "JOKER" is an incel film, according to the media and ATRL, so it's not that big of a loss if the sequel is PANNED by the industry.

P.S. Don't be surprised when little monsters, all of a sudden, start trashing Margot Robbie for no reason whatsoever other than the fact that she perfectly portrayed Harley Quinn first and for being a talented actor that is acclaimed and actually respected in the film industry by her peers.

ATRL was convinced that anyone daring to criticize this movie's approach or how it was being marketed was dead wrong. But ATRL, as usual, was wrong :hoetenks:

this was such a dissapointment :gaycat6: i hated the musical part so much. every time they started to sing it would take me right out of the moment. there is no real plot, nothing of value was added. joaquin and gaga did a great job with what they were given. i feel like lee was so useless? she added nothing to the story, if she hadn't been there nothing would have changed. the only two good scenes that stood out to me were the harley & joker tv scene + the gary pebbles scene. i also felt sad hearing how arthurs mother talked about him to strangers.

the closing statement felt like such a backtrack on the character, it made no sense to me. and the ending pissed me OFF. what were they trying to prove with it? what a ******* waste
