Post-2016 MPGs discussion thread

ATRL is too stuck in the past. The same girls are discussed periodically on repeat. There are too many Britney vs Xtina, Gaga vs Beyoncé and Adele vs Taylor threads. This ends here and today in this thread.

In this thread, we share our love, hype, support and maybe a little light playful shade towards the new generation, the new icons in the making. In this thread, there will be NO discussing of Gaga, Taylor, Adele, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Britney, Xtina, etc. Aside from the artists in my cute lil collage under here, feel free to discuss any of the new girls that debuted/started getting steam after 2016.

What excites you about the new girls? What do you think they could do better? Discuss your fave songs, performances, interviews, etc. And remember to keep the old garde AWAY from this thread! :gaycat2:

Stan Dua's best song :gayalipacat4:

I think the new generation is a bit more innovative and creates better music on average.  However, I feel like their vocal ability is not what prior generations have been.  They all have good voices, but it just seems like the average is lower.

If I may say, I think ATRL is too stuck in the past because the new girls are just not that exciting. That said, you have a point so let me say that Doja is an incredible performer and Dua put out one of the best dance pop albums in history.

I barely like any of the new (commercial pop) girls, but I'm 100% with you. Everytime I see a 10-page Beyoncé vs Gaga thread I cringe so hard.

Let me give you my take on the girls in the OP :gaycat3:

Doja Cat - I despise her. Can't stand her music, much less her personality. I know she's a good performer, and she has a drive for music, but I've seen people praising her as some kind of Janet Jackson-level performer and a legend in the making. Not sure about that.

Olivia Rodrigo - Her album is good, not my type of music, but I appreciate it. Let's see what she's got in store for the next few years.

Billie Eilish - Obviously the most talented of them all. I don't connect a lot with her music, but some of her songs are really good.

Dua Lipa - Whew, I don't listen to her that much, but whenever a song by her is playing I bop to it. If she plays her cards right she could have a Rihanna 2010-2016 type of success. Future Nostalgia is the best album by the new pop girls.

(I'm 23).

I’ve noticed it too

but I think it’s more to do with a lack of new members

Tbh I only like Billie. She is the most talented artist out of those who debuted after 2016.

Doja is so astronomically ahead of the other 3 :bibliahh: but I like all 4 to varying degrees

Ariana’s in a weird spot, she’s between the old & new gen & her peers (Miley, Lorde, Meghan, Halsey etc) fell off.

Luckily Dua is blessed with amazing vocals because of her Albanian genes :gaycat2:

I disagree. I find it so exciting to see where their careers might go. I think the only reason most of yall say this is because most of the new girls don't have to do much effort anymore to smash because of streaming. The era of Madonna and Britney travelling the world and promoting their stuff overseas in Japan is over.

Billie is very talented and I see her having a long career, it's amazing how quickly she was able to develop such a stable fanbase

The music quality is so much better than it was 10 years ago, but ATRL doesn’t stan the music usually :cm:

Spoiler

Brazil has a music forum called Bcharts that is soooo active on social media and that makes new generation people join them as a member. Thats what lacks on ATRL. But im not sure if the server would resist if it got full of new members rn tho.. i will always be active here cuz this is just me killing time so if im killing time let me at least practice some english  but thats what lacks here.

I think we need to discuss how Dua is a fraud who clearly isn’t built to last, and anyone with a brain can see her success is smoke and mirrors which can’t be covered by any amount of fraudulent rereleases

The true supremes of the new generation are Olivia, Billie, and Doja

Wrong. The entire GP loves Dua, even straight guys adore her. She is THE hitmaker of the 2020s already and there is no denying that. She's just as much as a supreme as Olivia, Billie and Doja :gayalipacat4:But I love the attention for her. Keep it up. I love seeing her be discussed!

I like Poppy, lowlife hits like a truck, so catchy.

If this is the material then I understand why we keep the older girls in mind.

Doja hits all the spots but has an insufferable persona

Olivia Rodrigo isn't even on my radar and if I'm not mistaken she's had like one successful era and 3 hits

Billie seems all aesthetic to me, sorry, don't get it.

Dua has bops and that's where it ends with her.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't really get any of them. I listen to lots of newer music, but the older I get the less I'm into pop music and pop girls tbh.

Lowlife, Money & Girls In Bikinis are all 10/10 pop tracks. I wish she would do more of those but I get she has to switch it up artistically etc.

Queen of Pop, Metal, Reggae, Rock, K-Pop, etc.

Her persona is what made her famous to begin with aside from the good quality of songs :gaycat2:

I could name multiple reasons as to why the new girls aren't talked about really. Registration being closed most of the time, Gen Z moving on to places like TikTok/IG/Twitter, the trashy servers, newer artist not being discussed as much etc, etc. And consequently this entire site is full of users who are stuck in the past and are blinded by nostalgia :toofunny3:

Anyway Billie best act of her generation yes

I like Doja too although her personality lately has been a bit of a turn-off.

I feel like Lizzo deserves to be included in the OP too :gaycat6:

Yes, she debuted in like 2013, but only took off post 2019.

Cardi B deserves to be included too kinda. Even tho she's more rap than anyone of this group, she still is one of the biggest pop culture defining figures of 2016 and beyond.
