discussion Zendaya is supposed to be the new It girl in the movies but she feels so uneventful

Everyone always calls her the new It girl and replacing Jennifer Lawrence but I'm not dying to see a Zendaya movie like I would with Jennifer Anniston, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez or Jennifer Lawrence 

 

She always feels like seat filler to me nothing about her stands out.

but Euphoria is popular cause of the supporting cast not her.

I mean, she's probably called the "It girl" and new Jennifer Lawrence or whatever because there's not many actresses hitting hard like they used to right now. Technically Margot still has the title.

 

That said, I'm not a fan but Zendaya is undeniably in her buzz era and if she keeps the momentum up she'll easily be the "It Girl" soon.

i don't think Zendaya hype is big outside gen-Z and stan twitter.. i think her impact is overrated if i'm being honest but it's still far away from being a non-event. After all she's big with the latest generation and she's a emmy winner.

She will have her Oscar moment sooner or later. Industry loves her and they will not hesitate to reward her once she gets that baity role. Malcolm and Marie was a good start for her future Oscar buzz. 

Not you calling her as uneventful  This is a proof that once again ATRL is out of touch with the real world

she's in a lot of big movies as supporting roles, but she needs more leading roles in movies tbh even if not in blockbusters... she had malcolm & marie but that ended up getting bad reviews.

Tbf, outside of Macaroni and Cheese she's yet to truly lead a film. Her Emmy win for Euphoria cemented her status as a rising star and her next step should be picking strong lead roles in films that have both prestige and general appeal.

you're comparing people who have had long careers and starred in dozens of films. she's really only had supporting roles in big films. euphoria famously takes forever to film and i'm sure the dune sequel does as well. i'm guessing that given the huge buzz around her, she'll probably sign onto and film a bunch of starring roles over the next year or two which will come out in fairly quick succession and either solidify her as a mega star or make the industry move onto someone else.

She’s mostly known for her beauty, kindness, and dating Tom Holland. She’s an actress, but her fame doesn’t derive from that the same way Jennifer Lawrence’s fame derives from acting. She has not had a film where she was lead and blew people away, and all of her biggest films she’s a side character (she was barley in the first Spider-Man and Dune). With that being said, I think she knows this and is working up her filmography. Although beauty and personality is important for a “main actress girl”, if you don’t have the talent or filmography to back it up you won’t last very long.

It’s not like the people named in the OP are that known for their movies anyway. It actresses are mostly known for their celebrity status and Zendaya definitely fits that

She’s more like Anne Hathaway it-girl, not Jennifer Lawrence it-girl.

 

Which is honestly fine as long as she continues picking her projects carefully and focused on longevity. 
 

Remember, she’s not like any of these other “chosen” Hollywood starlets. She’s been having to promote herself using fashion and red carpet for the longest time.

Boxoffice draws are an obsolete concept and there's not a solid distinction between TV buzz and Movies buzz anymore. Perhaps that's why it feels different (just like people were upset that JLaw was mentioned in the same sentence as Sandra Bullock, for example)

 

Spoiler alert: People in 2040 will say that they don't make stars like Zendaya anymore.

It’s because she’s not a tabloid celebrity. She’s focused on the art and moves very privately and quietly. Jennifer Aniston, Angelina, and JLAW were all actresses that were pushed in the tabloids a lot because of controversies, relationships, and more. Zendaya is just private.

Zendaya has yet to book a leading role in commercial films, but she has been booking leading roles in Oscar baity films recently
