Saw it last night and OMG I enjoyed everything about it :jonny5:

The only negative (for me) was Eric's song but it didn't effect the movie at all. I actually enjoyed the Scuttlebut rap that everyone else is cringing at :toofunny3:

But yes HALLE BAILEY IS ARIEL she embodied the role more than I could've imagined. She really is a star and deserves all the flowers and praise she's going to receive from this :WAP:

2 things.. first this preview number is nothing short of fantastic even if it's not $12M+. It's the 3rd biggest previews of the year only behind two superhero films (which have historically always been preview heavy). It also doesn't really affect the weekend predictions, whether it be the industry's $120M 4-day or my higher $140-150M predict. Family films like this live and die by the weekend walk-ups and there's no sign of them being weak here.

Secondly, Disney is also very likely underreporting the preview number by a small bit.

Weekend is looking huge.

Awkwafina is always the worst part of whatever she's in.

The movie was good enough. A passable remake. I like it more than Aladdin but not nearly as much as The Jungle Book (every other live-action remake has been garbage).

Halle was fantastic as Ariel tho.

Leaving the theater as we speak.. It is so friggin' good, and well-made! Totally enjoyed it from start to finish! Everyone did such a goob job! CGI out of this world!

I think y'all are being too harsh to Awkwafina.. She brought the corky, and was cute, even if it was a little cringe!

Melissa was so ******* amazing.. Only her make-up SUCKED! Everything else was just super cool!

Vanessa has the best villain remake scene after Maleficent's curse scene.

Securing my ticket for this weekend :celestial2:

TLM in Germany OW is predicted only 4% lower than Aladdin.

275K tickets for TLM and 288K for Aladdin. Better than Italy.

TLM opened on the first day in China with $516K which is really bad.

Its a shame it's going to end up as the lowest reviewed Disney princess's live action but mostly it's because of the visuals and racists.

Not to mention probably the hardest movie to execute as well

I thought Melissa was gonna be bad based on what I heard, but she gave a REAL and nuanced performance, it was over the top when it needed to be and not all the time. That is what makes a good actress in a role like this where being BIG all the time seems efficient.

Halle was so good, I forgot the animated version existed, tbh she quite literally is Ariel, no way around it.

Prince Eric was great, Awkwa was great, I really enjoyed the whole thing tbh.

Just left the theater after a solo viewing in 4DX and it was absolutely delightful :alexz3: Halle was perfection as Ariel. Her voice, tone, and mannerisms all made for a beautiful performance. I hope they release it on steelbook so I can add it to my collection. It was a beautiful visual which makes all the complaints about lighting ridiculous. My showing had a lot of little girls with their Ariel dolls. Thinking about seeing it again on Monday

Rating: 3.9/5

Just listened to the awkwafina song :deadbanana2:
When I tell you I am sick and tired of this lady :deadbanana2:

Javier Bardem was seriously awful in this movie. I'm kind of confused as to why they didn't make him do more takes? Or was that really his best?

Awkwafina didn't bother me but I feel like they added in too many scenes with Scuttle because she's a big name (I think? She at least is for millennials and younger). Sebastian's voice bothered me at first but I got used to it. LMM and his cohort need to be banned from Disney movies tho, wtf was that rapping scene.

I thought most of the additions to the story were pretty useless. There's so much random lore added about siren songs and sea gods but it doesn't amount to much. I liked Eric better as apart of Ariel's story rather than giving him a whole arc. I get that the original is too short for a feature these days but there is no reason this needed to be over 2 hours :deadbanana:

Halle is a star. If they had some other random actress playing her I think this would've been very difficult to get through. I kept waiting for the Eric scenes to end so we could get back to her parts.

Awkwafina wasn’t that bad. Y’all doing too much.

Anyways, HALLE CRUSHED IT. She perfectly portrayed Ariel and added so much warmth to the character. She was too cute as human Ariel and just adorable and so innocent. Dinglehopper. 😭 She was great at the drama too. WHAT A STAR.

Only thing I didn’t care for was the Eric song but it makes sense that he needed one and only thing I disliked was human Ursula still having Melissa McCarthy’s voice. It was jarring.

Overall, beautiful adaptation of the original.

I loved every minute of it.

Sebastian and Scuttle were honestly really funny… I’m not sure why everyone seems to have an issue with them?

There were a handful of things I would perhaps change but overall I had such a fun time. Halle absolutely KILLED it.

Cannot wait to see it again next week.

As we told you, once a Disney princess film gets momentum, well, it’s wandering free at the box office. Such is the case for The Little Mermaid, which after $10.3M in previews is seeing $38M for Friday, which will result in a $105M 3-day, and a $125M 4-day opening at 4,320 theaters per sources. Again, a great result for a predominantly female skewing tentpole; it’s the smaller movies aimed at women which the marketplace is still on the fence about. Little Mermaid‘s success here with female moviegoers also paves the way for another big summer: Warner Bros’ Barbie at the end of July.
