Hope he survives.

This can only be bad for Japanese politics and will probably serve to further entrench conservative rule :doc:

This is so shocking. Gun violence and political assassination seem to be extremely rare in Japan.

It is rumoured that the attacker used a 3D printed gun.

This may open up a whole another discussion on 3D printers.

So rare that the shooter appears to have made his weapon from scratch :skull:

Japan has extremely low crime/violence, but it's always had a problem with fringe, outcast men doing weird ****. This being an extreme case of that I'd say from what we know so far

I hate this world.

You know you don't have to celebrate someone you disagree with being murdered, specially in a situation like this right? Very weird behavior

Well, obviously not. But I ain't celebrating either.

He actively denied what was Japan committing genocide against both China and Korea, let alone defending his own grandfather's actions of actively participating in killing and raping people only to then be a hero in Japan.

Anyone celebrating is probably doing so out of a place of immense pain.

omg this is insane

Japan has some of the strictest gun laws in the world so this is very shocking

Don’t know much about Shinzo Abe or his policies but hope he makes it

Not good.

Can't WAIT to see how the LDP will spin this senseless tragedy for their own gain. /sarcasm

LDP and it's corrupt conservative nationalistic geezers will surely have a choke hold on Japan for several years to come.

Abe is a terrible person. That's all I'm going to say because it still is sorta sad and scary but I would understand why someone would want him dead. :coffee2:

Mass shooting/gunshot is the new pandemic :deadbanana4:

This is an "attempted" assassination, not a mass shooting.  I say attempted bc we don't know if they actually succeeded or not.

Hope he is able to recover.  This seems very random coming from Japan.

I know. My point was you're saying you wouldn't celebrate Trump being killed, but the immense suffering Abe defended, and even was connected to, means that it is not an emotionally irrational reaction to celebrate his death.

It'd be like acting confused why Iraqi nationals would celebrate if GWB had ever experienced the same fate.

It's probably a bigger story that it's looking more likely that he was shot by a Japanese national, possibly even someone who previously supported him but angry over the state he left the country in (his approvals collapsed in the end-stage of his time of his tenure). Anyone trying to direct you instead to focus on inappropriate or mocking viral posts by Chinese or Korean citizens releasing decades of generational trauma are probably doing so for a reason.

Sorry but this is bizarre, and this is coming from someone who deeply resents Abe because of many reasons.

I'm not rooting for him or anything but posting "good riddance" outs you as an unserious person in this discussion since you admit that you do not know how this will affect Japan (no one does) and/or the material lives of the Japanese that will change as a consequence.

And from a forum perspective you're a moderator and I know for a fact that people wishing ill on politicians - no matter how right wing - would largely earn most of them WPs, at least in the past. This was most often when far right politicians were getting Covid after peddling pseudo-science against Covid, and other countless examples are all lost to the ATRL purge. I was there in these threads and I also skirted the line about wishing ill on these demons, admittedly. I was never warned thankfully (although reminded by PM), and I understand the "" emotional itch "" these posts scratch, but they're wholly inappropriate.

Like, the historical stuff aside, he was even bullying Korea until the very end so even the younger generation despise him. People absolutely hated him in 2019 for his policies.
