Rebel Wilson forced to come out by newspaper

In their new article The Sydney Morning Herald describes that they gave Rebel a two days heads up that they were going to break the story about her relationship and asked for her to make a comment to them in return.

Then they posted this article being angry that she broke the story herself.

Rebel starts spreading the news of relationship: "Coming out, Rebel style"

In a perfect world, “outing” same-sex celebrity relationships should be a redundant concept in 2022. Love is love, right

As Rebel Wilson knows, we do not live in a perfect world.

So, it was an abundance of caution and respect that this media outlet emailed Rebel Wilson’s representatives on Thursday morning, giving her two days to comment on her new relationship with another woman, LA leisure wear designer Ramona Agruma, before publishing a single word.

Big mistake. Wilson opted to gazump the story, posting about her new “Disney Princess” on Instagram early Friday morning, the same platform she had previously used to brag about her handsome ex-boyfriend, wealthy American beer baron Jacob Busch.

UPDATE:

After receiving backlash for their first article, they have posted a response article that you can read here: "A note on Rebel Wilson"

Our weekly Private Sydney celebrity column last week asked Wilson if she wished to comment about her new partner. We would have asked the same questions had Wilson’s new partner been a man.

To say that the Herald ‘outed’ Wilson is wrong.

Like other mastheads do every day, we simply asked questions and as standard practice included a deadline for a response. I had made no decision about whether or what to publish, and the Herald’s decision about what to do would have been informed by any response Wilson supplied.

Wilson made the decision to publicly disclose her new partner - who had been a feature of her social media accounts for months.

I can’t believe.. they would not only do this but then to also publish it :rip: the whole article reads like a temper tantrum

that's terrible

and what's more terrible is that coming out is still such a big deal and those actors and actress feeling pressure not being full themselfes in public because of fear of loosing their career.. thats ****** up

Posted

Disgusting, why would they “pressurising” her to come out in 2022? ******* idiots!

Posted

Infuriating, no one deserves this, acting like they were generous with that 2-days heads up :psyduck:

It's utterly insane that they're acting like victims in this situation when they essentially forced her out of the closet. The media remains f*cking trash.

ATRL will say this is terrible but you’re all just as bad constantly speculating online if people are gay or not

Trash newspaper company but congrats to rebel Wilson for living her truth now.

That’s so funny!! She got their asses. This isn’t 20 years ago where the mainstream media was pretty much the only outlet. Trifling they would act like victims though.

Lmao what is this straw-man fallacy.

ATRL is not a publication or the media. Speculation from people on a members only forum is not the same thing as powerful media publications OUTING you to the public.

pls read a book

Not them posting an article that could possibly give Rebel grounds to sue for harassment or something. The self-exposé.

Disgusting behavior. Where is their journalistic integrity?

Rebel seems really happy at the moment, but hopefully this didn't take too much of a toll on her.

There’s a huge difference in people on an online forum speculation if someone is gay, and a magazine admitting they’re going to actually out someone :rip:

good for Rebel for grabbing the narrative, but how absolutely awful that she had to do that and couldn’t come out on her own terms

Does this journalist/publication think anyone is going to be on their side? Who the actual f*** do they think they are?

That is very trashy! Can’t believe people still do that.
