illia Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 In an interview with Schnapp and Brown for Variety, however, Schnapp had a more ambiguous perspective on how the show’s writers, led by creators and executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer, have approached Will’s sexuality. “I feel like they never really address it or blatantly say how Will is,” he says. “I think that’s the beauty of it, that it’s just up to the audience’s interpretation, if it’s Will kind of just refusing to grow up and growing up slower than his friends, or if he is really gay.” At this point, Brown chimed in. “Can I just say, it’s 2022 and we don’t have to label things,” she said. “I think what’s really nice about Will’s character is that he’s just a human being going through his own personal demons and issues. So many kids out there don’t know, and that’s OK. That’s OK to not know. And that’s OK not to label things.” Schnapp agreed. “I find that people do reach to put a label on him and just want to know, so badly, like, ‘Oh, and this is it,'” he said. “He’s just confused and growing up. And that’s what it is to be a kid.” source: https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/stranger-things-will-byers-sexuality-noah-schnapp-millie-bobby-brown-1235281210/
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 The way both Noah and Millie are giving us the PR responses meanwhile Finn Wolfhard and David Harbour heavily implied that Will is gay
TheCal Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) They both really hate the idea that one of the main og kids is gay Edited May 31, 2022 by TheCal
popularmoonlight Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 I really wanted them to give Will's character more of a concrete knowledge of being gay, like 1 or 2 scenes of him thinking or having a crush. Or even give him a lil boyfriend, but I also feel like I can live without it? I do think Will is gay and have always thought that, ever since season 1 - and maybe this time it isn't completely necessary to make it even more obvious? I'm all for representation but I don't feel really bothered about the way he is now.

Chickening out of LGBT representation is clearly not why they aren’t making Will gay. OT: I usually would find it annoying when shows try to make things aMbIgUoUs and queerbait, but Robin being gay and actively discussing girls with Steve makes me believe that Will wasn’t intended to be gay or will be part of the story later on.

Beyonnaise Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 Reading that article it sounds like the cast let the cat out of the bag that the second half will reveal that Will is interested in Mike. Not surprising, it's common for a story arc to drop hints foreshadowing something bigger at the end of the season.
Bussea Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 imagine caring about the sexuality of a fictional minor. what’s the benefit if he is gay?

Vermillion Posted May 31, 2022 Posted May 31, 2022 If they did they'd get criticized and if they didn't they would too. That being said, I can't help but feel it's a cop-out given the culture wars raging right now.
