As she told them in s5e12: “You guys didn’t come all the way from England to determine whether or not I was good enough to be let back in. You came to beg me to let you back in, to give your jobs, your lives, some semblance of meaning.” With that in mind and their demand for her, they could’ve agreed to a partnership somehow, but they didn’t, aside from paying Giles. But you make a great point too that the Watchers Council didn’t value her enough so Buffy had to do things on her own, and in turn, it played well with the theme of the season. I just wish we would have got pay off eventually. Not in season 6, obviously, but maybe in season 8 if we got one. But tbh I haven’t read the comics and idk if people consider them canon or not. I’m definitely getting the comics after I finish 7. .. Spoiler No offense, but how in S8 would we have gotten a payoff when the council blew up in S7? 🤣 But it continues to show how little the Council had faith in their Slayers. The drugging of her on her 18th birthday, the trials they put their Slayers through et al. It was the idea that men undervalued a woman's worth, and by the end, Buffy allowing any girl who may be a Slayer to be a Slayer, in taking control of their own lives. 1

Venom Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Angel season 4/Buffy season 7 spoilers Angel - Habeas Corpses: The HORROR in this episode was done so right. The Beast walking through Wolfram & Hart and killing every lawyer in sight! Buffy - Potential: During season 7 Dawn has taken a liking to the researching stuff and with this episode I feel like Dawn was being set up to become a Watcher. But this episode takes place after the council HQ blows up so not sure where they were taking her character if they got a season 8.
Venom Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Oh and I finished the Slayers Audible series a few days ago. Overall, it was good and really well done so I recommend Buffy fans check it out. Doesn’t beat the show, obviously, but it was cute and nice to hear some familiar voices again.
Antikythera Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Strangely back in the day I had trouble following Buffy because it was on Fox at the same time a lot of sitcoms were on Warner and I always prefered the sitcoms. I end up watching more of Angel cause it would be on open tv in a good time slot. I think I only watched two Buffy seasons and then on and off. Enough to know the whole Angel plot.

I used to love "Alias" and one year they changed channels and they started the series from season one, meaning I had to wait two years for season 3. And the cliffhanger was that after a fight she wakes up one year later in China with no memories. Imagine that! I was so pissed off, I couldnt even download it because the files were huge and would make my internet provider cut me off because of transfer limits lol I die everytime I see someone complaining about "netflix is taking too long" lol 1

New Edition Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 Okay you guys convinced me. I'm going to watch the first three seasons of Buffy, then maybe switch over to watching four seasons of Angel. Just one question - what other teen/young adult 90s show should I watch? I heard there's one called Alex Mack?
Power love Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 A massive Buffy/Angel stan but have no interest in this book series for some reason
The Man Who Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 There’s a British game show called Picture Slam hosted by Alan Carr where you’re shown a few images and you have to say what it is and one of the pictures tonight was: The way I SCREAMED at the TV!

Faith looked amazing in S4 Angel. It’s like she hadn’t aged a day. But then in S7 Buffy she looked like she ate 100 donuts a day or they did a terrible job styling her. I don’t get what happened because she looked really different between the two shows. 1

She looked amazing in Angel S4 and Dollhouse. She looked exactly the same in Buffy as she did in Angel, so I’m not sure what versions of the episodes you’re watching. It’s one thing to say you don’t like how a character is styled, but to say “But then in S7 Buffy she looked like she ate 100 donuts a day” is disgusting as you’re quite clearly trying to body shame her and insinuate she looked fat in S7 when she looked as stunning as ever. I don’t understand what’s so controversial about her wearing a lot of tank tops and jeans throughout the series when that’s pretty much her go-to outfit. Her ‘styling’ was consistent throughout both Buffy and Angel. 2
The Man Who Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I’ve listened to this an unnatural amount of times! It’s so ******* good. 1
Godly Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Finally watching Angel for the first time ever after having been a die-hard Buffy fan all my life, currently in the middle of S2 and enjoying it quite a bit. The first season took its sweet time to find its rhythm and was waaay too standalone-y for my taste, but the back half got progressively stronger with the Faith mini-arc being a highlight, especially the incredible final act in Five by Five. I wasn't sure David Boreanaz had the charisma to carry an entire show all on his own shoulders so the most pleasing surprise was finding Angel a much more interesting character in his own right than he ever was in Buffy and that the show allows itself to poke fun at him from time to time. That one episode with Buffy and the mindwipe was highkey trash though. So far Season Two is pretty great, there's an actual main arc that is mostly awesome and the exploration of Angel's inner torment through his past interweaving with his present is wonderfully portrayed. The double feature of Fool for Love and Darla originally airing back-to-back is probably the coolest thing they ever did on the Buffyverse and both episodes are incredible. There's at least a couple of episodes that ended with as jaw-dropping a scene as the best of Buffy's cliffhangers and, considering one of the reasons I never got into Angel until now is that I didn't think it'd be able to match those moments, I'm highly impressed. Only minor gripe I have so far is that everyone of the main cast that isn't Angel is getting pretty sidetracked here, as opposed to the balance that was there in S1 and that was one of its main strenghts, and when they do get some focus it mostly results in weak episodes. Looking forward to continue now and it's great to see people still discovering the BtVS world all these years later here, it deserves 1

It really is so sad that BtVS going to UPN cut us from more special episodes like this. What's great about FFL and Darla is that it really was innovative in the concept of crossovers. I love season 2 of Angel.
