GentleEarthquake Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 good for her, i just hope she uses her creative freedom wisely

Edibles. Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 She’s gonna fall OFF hard just like Banks did. I bet she’ll do a distribution deal through AWAL and just completely miss the mark. I don’t mind these girls going indie, but Marina is going to make it her entire personality. It’ll be a girl boss move and how she writes her own music, owns her masters (if that’s the case…), is running a female owned business. I’m not gonna be fighting for my life in these trenches anymore with her.
James_XL Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Finally! Ancient Dreams deserved better promo. Can all this independent girls get their **** together and start a joint label? Going by Tinashe and Iggy if they don't start supporting each other first no one will no matter how good the music is.
Velvet Night Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I’m so happy for her! I feel like this decision really makes sense for her. I’m very excited to see what direction she will go in now that she has full creative control
pavi Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Oh wow, this really could go either way for her! It could be great for her to have full creative freedom and roll out music like she wants to, but I do feel like she's an artist who needs some quality management from outside too. Do we know how much her old label limited her or influenced her sound? I only heard a lot about her label during the EH-era, but I have no clue if for example L+F was all her idea or a label's vision I also hope she'll still have access to good producers!
Heartbreak Prince Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 She and Charli both getting dropped by Atlantic in the same year…..here’s hoping the label will now be able to find the funds they’ve haemorrhaged on those two over the years to no recoup.

Idk if they influenced her sound in regards to L+F, but Marina said on a podcast last year that Atlantic was sitting on FROOT forever and refused to fund its mixing and photoshoot. She had to pay for it herself.
Generation Braindead Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I feel like Marina will excel more at being independent. She seems to be a very hands on artist with her own work. She produces and mixes a lot of her vocals and demos already.

It seems like the label wanted her to truly break out as a pop start during Electra Heart and when that didn't happen they probably didn't really know what to do with her (since all labels seem to care about is success and money). If FROOT was her direction and she just had to pay for stuff herself to get it out, not having a label will probably be a good thing for her
The7thStranger Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 GOOD. They screwed her so hard during the Love + Fear era. Not surprising, though. Atlantic is a mess.
Pendulum Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Doesn't matter if she's signed to the biggest label out there or if she's going independent, she has lost her creative spark and that is the truth of the matter. Fans being blind to that are cringe and embarrassing and I feel sorry for you that you would eat up everything she puts out like the garbage ADIAML was with its faux-woke lyrics. Good luck to her anyway. She's not the same artist I once fell in love with so I don't really care what her next endeavours would be.

Alex Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 we won I can see her doing a distribution deal of sorts like Allie X

Charli has just released her most successful to date. It's been half a decade, sweeftie, let it GO. Good for Marina!

People really are scared of artists actually being woke, that's why her and Zara get so much bullsh1t online just cause rightist fear them.

It's extremely foolish AND childish to claim I'm right wing because I dislike Marina's attempt at being political with her music. I'm not scared of some self-proclaimed millionnaires singing about how capitalism made us (she shouldn't include herself in that lyric) poor. It's a you problem if you cannot see the hypocrisy with the themes expored in ADIAML. But she's smart, she knows her fanbase would want to hear pseudo-crap like that. Next time re-read your post before hitting the Submit Reply button because what you said makes 0 sense and it's embarrassing. It's exactly the type of behaviour from Marina stans I'm talking about. mypaintoyou Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 I hope she releases better music tired of society and justice lyrics i can’t relate

J like the SOUND of the ADIAML album but yes, the lyrics are horrid (except for Flowers, Goodbye and I guess Happy Loner)

She should stick to writing lyrics about her own personal experiences cause that is what she excels at
Desire Posted May 23, 2022 Posted May 23, 2022 Why did I already think she was independent after she dropped the bomb that was L+F Oh well, hopefully this is a good thing for her. Ancient Dreams deserved a lot more promo than what was given
