MoonGoodandHappy Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Have you ever seen a movie or a serie that felt a little homophobic ?
TaylorNation Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 everybody praises The Birdcage but I thought it was really offensive
The7thStranger Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Queer as Folk sometimes went a bit overboard in making sure that the characters were almost never happy. It was pretty cynical. Sex and the City, for as much as like the franchise, treated queer characters horribly. It’s hard to look back on certain moments. I personally hate the premise of Queer Eye, although I respect what it did at the time. I used to watch it because it was one of the only shows on TV with actual gay people on it.
Dula Peep Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 the new Queer as Folk with the Pulse shooting storyline
Into The Void Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) I mean obviously older shows pre- 2000s Edited May 19, 2022 by Insanity

Carla Rosón Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Call me by your name Definition of a "gay" movie made by straight people, for straight people.
PoisonCandy Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 I don't know if it was damaging or homophobic, but I feel like 13 Reasons Why kind of turned it into a joke when they started making every second character LGBT.
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 It was a cartoon, but Cow and Chicken had that stereotypical gay devil that was obsessed with ass They also had an episode where like 10 butch lesbians on bikes intrude a home and eat someones carpet
TheCheshireCat Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Queer Eye is one I refuse to watch as it seems the primary consumers of that show are straight women. I don't know, it plays out like a weird fantasy, 5 ethnically diverse fairies coming over for a few days and make all your problems go away! They tidy your house, they teach you how to dress, they domesticate their bumbling husband and empower the girl to rock that dress she's always wanted to wear (but is too scared). Then they go away leaving everything a little more fabulous than it was before. No thanks.
BOOMBAYAH Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Call Me By Your Name is already aging poorly and it’s not even that old. The discourse around that film is only going to worsen considering Armie is a maniac.

Fancyhoodlum Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Wouldn't say it was damaging but sex and the City gay portrayal was very stereotypical of how gays were used to seen. Many shows did that but I don't think it's particularly damaging, it was just the times.
arceus Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Anything featuring overly fem gays (except SpongeBob because the show is actually funny)

Mobility Mary Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Everything Everywhere All At Onde felt homophobic to me even tho one of the main plots was about a mother accepting her gay daughter Dune is also homophobic af, I’m glad the new movie didn’t include that
