Genius1111 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I feel bad for this guy. Meanwhile, another guy in his home (partner? roomate?) is walking around him shirtless as though it's nothing.
Vermillion Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 6 hours ago, katara said: What is the efficacy of the vaccine? 5 hours ago, Dephira said: I guess they don't really know yet since the vaccine is technically against smallpox and there's little real-life data. Other smallpox vaccines used in Africa had an efficacy of at least 85% against monkeypox. Honestly even though smallpox is eradicated, being immunized against it at the same time is a nice side effect given that some countries might decide to use it as biological warfare. Jynneos' effectiveness against monkeypox is I believe what drew the 85% effectiveness number in Africa and not something different but I may be wrong. If I am I can try to find the info on the other vaccines they've been using. But again, that doesn't apply to the current outbreaks outside of Africa given we already have what looks to be two different strains. There's also no data currently on the effectiveness against monkeypox for those that were vaccinated for smallpox prior to 1972 when it was stopped in the US, UK and several other countries, though it is speculated that it does offer some but has obviously waned. Neither ACAM2000 (approved by FDA in 2007) nor Jynneos (approved in 2019) remotely resemble the vaccines from that time. ACAM2000 The ACAM2000 vaccine doesn't contain variola virus (the virus that causes smallpox), but it does contain live vaccinia virus, which is in the poxvirus family and is related to variola virus. The vaccine is approved for those who are 18 and older and at high risk for orthopoxviruses (right now, that includes people in laboratories working with orthopoxviruses and military personnel), but can be used in people exposed to monkeypox, if needed. The vaccine is different from typical vaccines in that it doesn't include an injection. Instead, the vaccine is administered by a two-pronged (bifurcated) needle dipped in vaccine solution that then pricks the upper arm. A small, red, itchy, sore spot (known as a "pock") develops at the vaccination site, which indicates a successful vaccination. The spot will then turn into a blister, then a scab, and leaves behind a scar. Again though, this vaccine should not be used in people who have certain health conditions, such as a weakened immune system, skin conditions like eczema or other exfoliative skin conditions, or pregnancy. Jynneos (also known as Imvamune or Imvanex) Jynneos is the newer vaccine that has been licensed in the U.S. to prevent both monkeypox and smallpox. Like ACAM2000, Jynneos is also made from the vaccinia virus, but in a modified form called "Modified Vaccinia Ankara." It's non-replicating, meaning it can't reproduce in human cells, and it doesn't cause disease. The vaccine is meant for people ages 18 and older who are at a higher risk of orthopoxviruses, and is given in two doses, four weeks apart.
James_Dean Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I haven't been keeping up with much of the Monkeypox situation, but this came up on my timeline.... this **** feels like it's going to cause another worldwide pandemic thanks to idiots like this Original thread
Protocol Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 So far it’s a 0.005% death rate so we don’t need to panic panic, it’s not AIDS That said whew chile some of those videos are gnarly, I am seriously reconsidering going to this circuit party I have tickets for tonight
DONTYELLATME Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 People should be reducing sexual partners for a while tbh, and avoid parties and all sexual themed events. People need to be more responsible! There’s a responsible way to have sex with strangers and people aren’t following it!

Also from anecdotal reports I've heard, I think some asymptomatic transmission is happening. Or transmission from people with such mild or atypical symptoms that they don't know they could have it.

I couldn't find any studies analyzing the efficacy of Imvanex in real-life monkeypox outbreaks
Bosque Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 There's some more info with cited studies in this Nature article: Monkeypox vaccination begins — can the global outbreaks be contained? (nature.com) Here is a link to the original study that seems to be the foundation of the "85%" number: bullwho00069-0046.pdf (nih.gov) It's relatively old (from 1988) and past monkeypox outbreaks have been smaller than this one, so it's not clear at all how accurate the figure will be for Imvanex against the current version of the virus. @Espresso

Thanks for the data clarification. Again I don't think the past comparisons are going to be productive but it's too early.

While that is true, there's a huge number of cases coming (no pun intended) from close contact through sex, so I believe it would be best, in an individual level, to reduce your number of partners, and taking precautions if you're in crowded places (mask, washing of hands when possible -if you'd stopped doing that-).
Leptine Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Not the "gay disease" argument taking over in my country and ignorant people claiming it's just a disease related to homosexuals making trend a homophobic tag on social media with some straight people claiming they're not taking just because they're straight, the ignorance my God

Let me add (and suggest) body antibacterial disinfecting wipes, I'm using them since the pandemic after sitting or going in public places, especially now with wearing shorts and t-shirt, always have a hands sanitizer too. Better be exagerate Naomi Campbell style but stay safe if possible, those skin warts scare me a lot
Jagger Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Sooooo are we getting vaccines yet?? Everywhere I call in New Jersey says they are booked and aren't accepting anymore people for the waitlist. So ******* irritating like why isn't the government making this a priority? Because it's affecting gays mostly?

Please read the whole thing I wrote before going to the related links for the paragraphs, I worked a while on it Read those too though. We currently have a ~100 million ACAM2000 stockpile, but the procedure to inoculate is too complicated for pharmacists or even standard nurses to administer because it includes needing to draw blood multiple times then coming back a week later to make sure a pustule has developed, and in that process, making sure it's well dressed and covered so it doesn't spread, before coming back for the administer to see that it worked. Also a big risk from several studies of moderate to severe myocarditis, among other risk factors for the immunocompromised. https://www.vox.com/2022/7/29/23281407/monkeypox-vaccine-acam2000-jynneos-smallpox The timing has been awful and there's the inconvenient fact that we have biopharma monopolies in this country as well, because the only firm making the only other shot actually approved for monkeypox right now, Imvanex, which our country's contract is with the company Jynneos on (ACAM technically is still getting final approvals but even if it does will be next to impossible to roll-out nationally and likely won't). Jynneos has only one plant here in the States that's been shut down all summer and won't open until this month because they've been expanding it and then are waiting for FDA inspection, meaning we won't get their output until early next year at the earliest. https://www.barrons.com/articles/monkeypox-vaccine-maker-plant-delay-51654789708 Which means we had to rely on the only other Jynneos plant in Denmark that we have contracts with, but the problem there, which the incompetent HHS and its defenders have given questionable pushback to, citing freezing issues and pilot strikes, is that their 300,000 vaccines sat unused for a month despite MSM struggling to get appointments because the U.S. hadn't placed an order for them yet, which many medical activists believe was a deliberate decision to hold onto and ignore MSM's problems because the stockpile was designed to be another type of more feasible vaccine instead of ACAM for weaponized smallpox bioterrorism allotments. In other words, activists say it was being saved for straight people until HHS was called out on it. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/25/nyregion/nyc-monkeypox-vaccine-doses-denmark.html In an attempt at damage control both prior and post release of that story, HHS has now said they've ordered 2.5 million to 5 million more doses from Jynneos (that range depends on who you ask). HHS press releases: https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/07/01/hhs-orders-2-point-5-million-more-doses-jynneos-vaccine-for-monkeypox-preparedness.html https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/07/21/fact-sheet-us-department-of-health-and-human-services-response-to-the-monkeypox-outbreak.html https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/07/27/statement-hhs-secretary-becerra-fda-approval-additional-bavarian-nordic-monkeypox-vaccine.html But again, the problem is, which these press releases gloss over, is that the vast majority of them won't be available until early next year at which point monkeypox will take hold in this country and likely become endemic among MSM in the United States (according to numerous experts) as it is among the general populous in Central and West Africa, especially as there are now known to be at least 2 strains globally of this recent spread outside Africa, and we've only just started. https://foreignpolicy.com/2022/07/25/monkeypox-smallpox-pandemic-world-health-organization/ Then you've got a whole other issue that's been covered extensively here which is the incredibly muddled if not outright irresponsible messaging from local and national health districts in a clumsy attempt to avoid stigmatizing anonymous encounters between MSM, which was a tricky balance when this first started as monkeypox is known to spread through air droplets and stay on surfaces and has affected more than just MSM but the data wasn't in yet on how the vast majority of spread is happening through sexual activity between MSM. Now that we have that data, there's been some adjustment and awareness, which will hopefully be better than the prior messaging from NYC's public health department to cover sores and avoid kissing if having sex while sick with monkeypox. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/18/nyregion/nyc-monkeypox-health-department-information-inaccurate.html https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/23282687/monkeypox-centers-for-disease-control-covid-world-health-organization-lgbtq Barring this becoming a pandemic, the ACAM rollout is never going to happen, imho. So unless not just a greater amount of MSM, but US citizens in general, start dying from this, we are not going to see a faster rollout from HHS with Jynneos because our elected representatives by their actions thus far DON'T CARE about monkeypox becoming endemic among MSM in the U.S. So in the meantime, good luck even getting a first vaccine before the end of the year, as bigger state health departments, including CA and NY, due to the low supply, have given up on the two vaccine doses entirely, even though that's how it's supposed to be administered for maximum effectiveness. Which in itself effects those going through all the trouble to get the first shots in the first place (This is a WaPo story fully available here due to the subscription block on the original site which for a health emergency is gross. I personally have not read a single story, and maybe it's just not well publicized and someone has, of anyone having received their second dose. NY, LA, SF, Chicago, Colorado, D.C. among many others are all only doing 1st shots only right now. Which directly contradicts FDA and CDC advice.
