I just got huge warinig on grinder about this.

Good.

Honestly they should shut down the service out of caution. It would certainly reduce spread.

The fact that queer Florida men have to deal with this AND Monkeypox at the same time :deadbanana4:

I think we should have an open and honest discussion about why gay men specifically keep catching these diseases. Yes, there is a lack of sex-ed and testing available, but also many people lack a sense of responsibility in their sexual actions.

This is a great thread of what we know so far:

- First case detected was in London from someone who travelled to Nigeria

- Monkeypox- even with this latest outbreak - is not nearly as contagious as covid. While it’s possible to spread via droplets (like a sneeze), that sort of transmission is rare and more common to be very close physical/sexual contact @BadMonster

- it's primarily presents as a skin illness disease, preceded by fever, headache, muscle aches and fatigue. Monkeypox is transmissible from the time when skin lesions appear, throughout the entire course of illness [i.e. all lesions have healed]

So, I'm not sure I got it the right way. Is it only transmissible when skin lesions/rashes appear, and not before? If we get rid of the asymptomatic mess of COVID, I'm sure we can actually breathe, relax and stay safe and precautios while not panicking.

Mmm, several Redditors are half-defending Eric Ding in this thread.

I also think one thing he showed is that there is value in a "dramatic" science communication style where you talk about the worst case scenarios--for some people it is really effective at motivating them to protect themselves.

Anyway, the OP of that thread listed 5 other people to follow. Besides Muge Cevik, are the rest alright?

Mess :rip: Prostitution is rampant there. If she wasn't immediately detained when entering the country, it can spread there really easily.

Good news today:

- Only +14 cases in the UK in a day. Absolutely no sign of exponential growth despite the media saying it had doubled twice (the first time it doubled was from 9 to 20 which isn't significant and the second time it went from 20 to 56 in 3 DAYS)

- All cases found in new countries come from traveling abroad, mostly to Europe. The UAE case comes from West Africa. Local (slow) transmission is only happening at UK, Portugal and Spain at this point and I wouldn't fully say local transmission since most cases can be traced to certain parties / events.

If we end this week with under 1,000 confirmed cases outside of West Africa that's reaaaaally good.

It's transmissible through big droplets too. There's a paper from some time ago that wasn't fully conclusive on airborne transmission but if this virus had airborne transmission, believe me, there would be like 50,000 cases already, with 20-30% of the guys in Maspalomas and the fetish 4 day festival in Belgium having the virus already lol. So most evidence points the easiest way of transmission is prolonged skin-to-skin contact (sex / kisses), with the possibility of it transmitting also through big droplets (sneezes and coughs) and clothes / sheets.  This doesn't mean transmission is always as effective. You can theoretically catch covid from sitting on a metro's seat someone with COVID just got up from, but it's extremely unlikely. I know it's soon to say airbone transmission it's not a thing but it would be SUPER WEIRD to have so little cases if it was airborne cause all the cases come from MASSIVE events, one being a 4 day fetish festival and the other a pride party with over 80,000 people.

Imagine how many cases of COVID would have popped up already if there had been a no mask, no vaccine massive 80,000 event. At the very least, 2,000 confirmed from that event only, and like 150 would be severe cases. Except for a rumoured one, there's stil zero severe cases reported from Monkeypox in Europe (and counting the 2003 West African Clade outbreak in the US, there's still 0 deaths from monkeypox in developed country despite +300 cases that happened / are happening)

More good news:

All cases so far have been in MEN, except for the case of the woman who went to West Africa, but that's a completely different thing. This is an extremely good sign cause it probably means sex is the most effective way of transmission of the virus BY FAR and a LOT of women went to  the Maspalomas pride parade, but probably none had sex with other men. This would mean that infection ways besides sex / direct contact with pustules (understood as any kind of sex, even kisses, since monkeypox isn't a proper STD) is the only way for this virus to transmit effectively, with other more concerning, mask and lockdown needed ways not playing a big factor into it.

Edit 2: A new case in a woman was found but she went to a fetish festival, and that fetish festival involved all kinds of sex, not just MSM. Another evidence of this being mostly sex ridden

The virus is in the USA already. That's why ring vaccination is so important, without it it makes take until July to control the outbreaks so prides would be high risks events ww

What is ring vaccination. I feel people won't take it serious though since it is going to be mostly young people effected. Older people all got the smallpox vaccine so it won't effect them like younger.

Thanks for the accurate and informative answer, it was very well put together and incredibly useful. And extremely positive too: I was scared of the upcoming pride season all around the world or summer holidays in general, but if this is indicative of what might happen in the future, it seems like something that in a pre-pandemic climate wouldn’t have made as much noise as it’s doing right now. I guess we’re (reasonably) all a bit paranoid with COVID, lockdowns, masks etc. but as always a good amount of right sources and reliable info is all that’s needed without panicking.
