I get the concern but it's really tiring to hear armchair epidemiologists talk about how "it's exactly like Covid at the beginning" or "omg, they also told us not to be concerned about Covid at first!!! Pandemic starting now" without any basic understanding of the mechanics of each disease.

(not targeting anyone on this forum specifically, just talking about stuff I've heard in real life)

I mean, there's a lot oif variants here. First, it's obviously completely understandable for some people to be alarmed simply because of what just happened the last few years. Second, misinformation happened all throughout COVID, so there's no reason to believe this is going to be any different. Finally, a lot of institutions, both political and health related, made mistakes in public comms and also directly lied to people for any number of reasons, justified or not, so it's quite logical for the public to be skeptical of any kind of early statements regarding this.

Imo, this is literally something that few years ago wouldn't have made much noise and would have come and gone without much noise, but we live in a post-COVID world so here we are.

36 new cases in the UK :biblio:

In three days by the way. They didn't announce cases on the weekend.

I agree that they should mention how it's spreading, but also making the focus on "gay orgies" is so :biblio: As if people needed more arguments for their homophobic "its another GAY DISEASE!" theories. Stigmatizing gays because a disease has started spreading in our community is completely wrong. (and yes I think certain promiscuous groups should **** off and use protection)

There are different ways to spread awareness and help prevent more cases imo. I also read that you can get it through close personal contact in general (kissing, touching people or their clothing, bed sheets, etc).

Way too early for such cases at this point cuz the incubation period for the initial events isn't even over yet

Well we don't know. Incubation period can be up to 21 days but it can also be 4-5 days.

More good news cause people here only post what they consider bad news without context:

Apparently the cases in Europe are only suffering from like 1 to 2 days of fever. Also more cases but no one dead, and only one semiconfirmed severe case

True but still.

We really need confirmation of how exactly this is spreading soon.

It also seems like the rash isn’t anywhere near as bad as the ones in the pics luckily.

I think the main theory the Spanish government has regarding the outbreak in Madrid traces back to a sauna party during Eurovision :deadbanana2:

watching Eurovision in a sauna :deadbanana2: spanish people are a ki!

This been posted here yet? Apparently the FDA approved a Monkeypox vaccine back in 2019. What a coincidence.

More at the link.

There are hundreds of vaccines for viruses that aren't widespread at all, it's literally done as a preventative measure for cases just like this :rip:

Sure Jan, there was no other motive :juanny:

COVID should have traumatized any normal sane person, especially when it comes to spread of medical conspiracy theories, so I'm not sure that's the gotcha you were going for :rip:

Funny how the treatment is radically different from covid all because it affects one's anesthetic in real time.

I've always believed that society has normalized dirty social practices such as hugging and handshaking, nevermind the invincibility belief of unprotected sex even in relationships to their inevitable detriment.

Gay men better not let rightwingers culture war this, if abortion is up to chop best believe your sashaying asses are in the lineup.

Meningitis has been a major issue in gay community. I hear about it all the time in LA. This isn't new.

Why is there no warning pop-up on Scruff and Grindr yet? They can advertise underwear but not a relevant public health warning?
