Kendrick should have had CDs/vinyls ready tbh. He's a good seller and would have pushed him to around 400k maybe

I'm sorry, but Kendrick is treated like a complete legend and he can barely outsell J Cole :rip: Embarrassing tbh.

well, weeknd went from one album at 275k sales (cd/digital) to

15k digital debut

37k cd debut

44k vinyl debut

Hypothetically let's say the 3 month rollout all happened first week with nothing lost; that would be 96k, -65% in two years.

damn at 353 sales, -65% = 124k, +249k streams +2k song sales = ~375k.

Numbers have nothing to do with legends status.

-------

OT : I saw it coming, he took a big tumble on streaming after the 1st day. Still good numbers since it's only streaming.

hmm i never realized that album only spent 4 weeks top 10.

A lot of his fans, the Hip-Hop community in general, and casual listeners did not like To Pimp A Butterfly at first because they get it was too early in his career to make an album like that and it didn’t have many “turn up” tracks

the same exact convo is happening for this new album

i don’t see this album being massive, but over time ppl will start to praise it for what it is :sherlock:

J.Cole is also a Hip Hop veteran, your framing of this doesnt even make sense :rip:

Sure, but Kendrick (his hype/brand) has created the image of being way superior than J. Cole when it comes to legend status. It's honestly very surprising that they're not too far when it comes to commercial success. And yes, I think J. Cole is one of the greatest on Hip-Hop of our time. It's just perception.

Well he is and his music is WAY more acclaimed than J Cole.

Not everything is about sales.
