americanlife Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 I loved my MacBook Air, but mine only lasted two and a half years. I had to take it to Apple SIX times for repairs in an 8-month time span. Maybe my case was rare, because Macs are built to last, but Windows computers are just fine. I got a Windows laptop after I took my MacBook for the sixth repair and I like it. A few months ago, I bought a used Mac Mini for cheap on eBay, and while I love the MacOS, I seem to prefer Windows these days. For the cost, some Windows computers are just as much or more than Macs. A Mac is worth it, but make sure it is right for your needs.
DiamondHoe Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 yeh they are tbh, even the less powerful devices last years I've had my MacBook Air since early 2015, and it still runs like a dream. by far the best-lasting laptop I've ever had. granted I only use it for uni work and low-level graphic design stuff. If you're doing something more hardcore I'd defo get a Pro.
Comedor Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 With that money you could literally buy a gaming laptop with specs 2-3 times better.
Starshine Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) 19 minutes ago, Comedor said: With that money you could literally buy a gaming laptop with specs 2-3 times better. No other OEM can match the price of a $899 M1 MacBook Air in terms of performance, premium and thin build quality, battery life, trackpad, reliability/longevity, etc. You also have to account for hidden costs of energy for Windows laptops, noisy cooling system, bulky weight, and also settle for that ugly gamer aesthetic. That $1k gaming laptop will most likely have an 11th Generation Intel Core i7 and the M1 destroys it while only using 30 watts. By the time other silicon finally matches the M1 in 2023/2024, Apple would already have an M2 or M3 out. The gaming laptop only makes sense if you want to play games and use software that is Windows only. Edited May 12, 2022 by Starshine
touchofmyhand Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) Yes. 0 headache and it lasts unbelievably long. The Air is your best option. The newer Pro models are an overkill. I'll be downgrading from my Pro to an Air once I feel like getting a new one. Edited May 12, 2022 by touchofmyhand
Iceland Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 I bought my MacBook in 2018 and is still brand new and working like the first day.
TaggedGalaxy Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Yes definitely, I've never gone back after buying my first one and have only bought Macbook Pros since then
BIAATCH Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 You could buy a cheaper one and an ipad too. iPads are the best thing from Apple tbh
Witchpop Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 My 2015 Macbook Pro is FINALLY starting to give out. The battery isn't holding a charge and T, S, and I keys are getting very hard to press to function. I'm planning on replacing it with the base model 14" or 16" Still unsure of the size.
BlackStar_93 Posted May 13, 2022 Author Posted May 13, 2022 (edited) Omg, the universal acclaim. Apple's folklore era Thanks for your advice y'all, I think I'm going to give Apple my coins this week and get one. Edited May 13, 2022 by BlackStar_93
Bethenny Frankel Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 yes it is the best laptop and I will never go back to ugly Windows
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 14, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted May 14, 2022 MacBooks have a well-earned reputation of lasting a long time. I had a 2012 MacBook Pro that I just recently replaced with the 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro. My older MacBook was still performing well for basic use so I sold it to someone who just needed basic functionality. But nearly a decade of use is insane for a laptop. So yeah, I would recommend a Mac machine.

bleuwaffle Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) i give my 2012 macbook pro heavy daily use and it's still running. they're worth the money. Edited May 14, 2022 by bleuwaffle
Johnny Jacobs Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 My boyfriend loves it and he has it for 3 years now. I don't see the appeal tho

I'm shocked by this. I have had many macbooks but none of them have ever lasted this long. I don't know how you do it, did you at least change batteries ? It sounds almost unrealistic.

With my 2012 MacBook Pro, I replaced its battery (since it was the last model where it was easily replaceable) to prolong its life. Shockingly, the new battery performed terribly and would only last 1-1.5 hours on battery. I swapped back in the old battery and it ran much better and would last 3-4 hours on charge.
Rage Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 I legit love my MacBook Air. It is so simple, does everything i need it to with no problems, and its so pretty. Honestly you can't beat the quality of these laptops. They are excellent in every way. Truly the MPG of laptops.

My first macbook was a Macbook Air (2013 Edition) I got it brand new back in like 2012-early 2013 I have a pretty long & extensive history with the Microsoft Windows software. I used Windows 95 All the way up until Windows 8 & some 10. So I've helped people fix their computers & fix my own etc. I loved Windows because you used to be able to customize it to whatever you wanted. So back in 2014 I got my first Macbook. It was a 2013 Macbook Air. & Even tho that Laptop wasn't meant to be something that had high performance features & etc. But I swear, it never slowed down. It never lagged, The battery lasted super long, the screen was so crisp & perfectly bright. I loved the Light up keyboard as well. I could have a bunch of taps open & I never got any lag from it. It was super fast when it came to playing my music that I had. Which I had over 35GB of just music. Everything else was just pics & apps.I think that Macbook had a 256 SSD, which back then for such a thin laptop it was pretty dope Anyway that laptop lasted me years without any issues. The reason it stopped working good was because I spilled fruit punch all over it. To be fair, it still worked really well. No lag, no slowness nothing. It's just that the battery got messed up, so I need to replace it. But after that I ended up getting a 2020 Macbook Pro & I LOVE IT. I wouldn't trade it for anything else, Unless it was an upgrade or something similar.

It worked perfectly and served its purpose (class presentations, video editing, etc). It got a bit laggy during around 2020 but I think it’s mostly because my storage was full. Not upgrading my Macbook Air for almost 8 years made the Macbook 2020 M1’s new specs more noticeable for me. I love the screen (esp the color depth and saturation) and the speakers are perfect! It also performs so much faster than my old Macbook Air! Applications used to take minutes before opening with the MBA 2013 but it only takes like seconds with the MBP.
Gesamtkunstwerk Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Yes, I had my MacBook Air from 2014-2022, and it still work just fine, I just upgraded it to a pro this year for study reasons.
