BlackStar_93 Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 ATRL'ers, I need some advice off any Mac owners on here! I've gone through two laptops in the last three years. My most recent was only brought late last year, and it's already laggy with a rubbish battery life despite me properly looking after it and getting it serviced. These are cheaper laptops (typically less than £350) but I feel like I'm wasting money on them and they don't last very long. Many people I've spoken to have recommended getting a Macbook Air. I kinda cringed at the price of them, but others seem to say they last for years and you get your money's worth. I only need it for email, internet surfing, music, and work/uni-related stuff. Are they worth the price tag? Are they genuinely that good?
XtianB Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) I’ve had my macbook PRO since 2016 and it’s still performing flawlessly, i cherish it all the time so YES it’s the best investment tech wise you can make Edited May 12, 2022 by XtianB
xXavril Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 100% yes, best money I've ever spent when it comes to technology

nathanspears Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Yes, definitely go for one of the Apple Silicon chips (M1)
ProudLBS Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 my company got me a Macbook Air a month ago (I'm a software engineer) and so far 0 complaints, but depending on what you want to do with it maybe you can get an older model? that'd save you some money
Taylucifer Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) my Macbook Air 2013 still works up until today lmao i’ve used it all throughout my College years i only just upgraded to a Macbook Pro M1 late last year Edited May 12, 2022 by Taylucifer
AM98GJ Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Definitely, I spend so much time on mine. Great for personal and professional stuff
hausofdave Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 100%, got the new M1 Max 16in and its incredible compared to previous gens, no fan noise or heating of any sorts no matter how much power I put into it (usually run Photoshop, FinalCut, SQL, Python at once)
Pheromosa Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 No. But my ipad cost as much as one so the fool is me i guess
Rith Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 i had a macbook air 2015 model between 2015 2021, worked flawlessly until i spilled coke on it i was too lazy to get it repaired and bought a mid class asus laptop which SUCKS im currently saving money for m2 macbook air which may come out in september/october according to rumors and i'd advise you to do the same. it's guaranteed to work perfectly for at least 5 years and the battery life is extremely stable which is a good sign
Kiel D-01 Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Yes, I bought mine in 2014 and it’s still as fast as when I first bought it. It just needs a new battery.

Bang Up Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) It depends on what you're used to and what you'll be using the laptop for. If you have an iPhone, an iPad, and other Apple products, a MacBook is going to make things so much easier in the long run. If you're not an Apple user or fan, a Windows computer makes more sense. What sets Apple apart is their ecosystem. Every Apple product connects to one other inside of the ecosystem in a way that makes moving from device to device seamless. Everything you do on your Mac you will be able to access on your iPad and iPhone. You can drag and drop photos from one device to another, text message from any device, and have all of your files with you no matter where you go. This type of ecosystem does not exist outside of the world of Apple. Since you say you'll be using a new computer for "email, internet surfing, music, and work/uni-related stuff," I really don't think it makes sense for you to drop money on a MacBook as you can save money and get a cheaper computer that will do these things just fine. However, if you're set on getting a MacBook, get a refurbished one from Apple. They're in perfect condition and come with the same warranty as a brand new one. This one is a pretty good price all things considered: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/FGN93LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macbook-air-apple-m1-chip-with-8‑core-cpu-and-7‑core-gpu-silver?fnode=9afc35eff503bc0e75ec3fa1a32e251e7fa05c46185c2ae8810122b6c9a81557a4f0e12191bafa01e34cdfa9bc6a867f49fe030eedb95b57b458916c3c61f3f24379b5bb5e1952e7285b06e6aa6dbd96 Edited May 12, 2022 by Bang Up
TheCal Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 If you already have apple products and you like them, then I would say yes. Their ecosystem is great. On the other hand, the things you said you will use it for, some cheaper non apple laptop will be just as fine.
Slate Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Definitely, I bought my first MacBook Air last year and I'm super happy with it.
SoJro101 Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 I’ve had mine for so a while, definitely worth it. The price can be jarring, but most last at least a decade. It’s a great investment, great tech.
Robyn. Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) The truth is macbooks are appealing when it comes to their ecosystem and design, but if you'd rather spend less then you can find cheaper laptops that can do the same work. It's all about what you're willing to pay, if you care about its design and you have other Apple products then go for it. If not, then I think you can find something great with other brands. lovedaddy Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 (edited) yes, it's flawless best money I spend in my life on technology I got MacBook Air with M1 and it's amazing Edited May 12, 2022 by lovedaddy
Ribs Posted May 12, 2022 Posted May 12, 2022 Macbooks are the best thing Apple has produced (iPhones are a mess and half) and they ara easily the best laptops in the field.
