She had the 1-2-3 punch of basically being the star of the Oscars that evening: the best actress nomination, the best original song win, and the iconic live performance. It was a huge repeak and shift in her career from just being a pop star to also becoming a (respected) Hollywood celebrity. She made all the right moves necessary in the preceding 5-6 years to make that night even possible. She ended ARTPOP having made horrible decisions, with everyone ruling her out. She suddenly shifted to Jazz music with Tony and performed several high-profile live performances including the Sound Of Music tribute and Til It Happens to you at the Oscars, Metallica/David Bowie Tribute/Cheek To Cheek at the Grammys, Million Performances, and the Superbowl performance to showcase her talent and versatility. She ventured into AHS and won a major acting award in that role. She also toned down her crazy outfits and behaviour and released Joanne, which was a lot more classy with a Gaga twist on it. Then she played a pivotal role to wrote and performed the soundtrack to ASIB and showed the acting chops--both elements needed to bring that project the acclaim it did. All of these steps were necessary and essentially culminated in people taking her seriously enough to award these accolades she got that night. The Oscars won't just give anyone that level of attention--she worked hard to prove herself every step of the way. So that's why I think that night solidified her as a legend. The triple punch of a hit song, a hit movie (i.e. general public respect), and the awards recognition... very few people in history are able to achieve this all at once. This 100%. The Oscars and A Star Is Born really cemented her status.
Jay07 Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Lady Gaga doesn't even have a classic album, let alone the legacy to be considered among the greats like Aretha Franklin, the Beatles etc. Out of the post 2000 artists, no one is a legend yet but Beyonce is on the way because of massive acclaim and impact on the culture. Lady Gaga is a massive celebrity and a gay icon. Learn the difference.
Rei Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 NA. She was on her way but then ruined everything when she cancelled Artpop Act 2 and took the boring ballad route with a boring image. K bye for now, Sunshine. <3
Skirt Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 It hasn’t happened yet and looking at her career trajectorih I’m not sure it ever will. She’s definitely an icon of the 2010s though.
MadOnHer Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 The moment hasn't happened. She still doesn’t have a classic album (and judging by her latest song, which she apparently spent 4 years perfecting, the prospect of this ever happening is not looking good!) She produced a couple of impressive videos from a visual standpoint in the early years of her career, but has done very little in real terms to push the medium forward. Her tours from an artistic point of view have been consistently underwhelming. She has a seeming inability to pull together her ideas to produce a show that is at once cohesive and intelligible. Didn't she once hype up one of her tours (possibly the BTWB) by claiming it was going to revolutionize the pop concert format? I'm paraphrasing... Anyway, clearly that didn't pan out! Basically she hasn't brought anything new to the table.
SarahWalkers Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 For me it was VMA Paparazzi. It didn't matter if her career would tank after that. Although Bad Romance kind of solidified it. She's practically the same level as Beyonce celebrity-wise. She's gonna be referenced endlessly in pop culture.
Winged Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 No Classic album No remembered performance Nothing unique about her Nothing remarkable She might be an icon for gays but that is a more of stretch

Homebrand Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 Tbh I don't think she's a ''legend'', a pop icon absolutely but I still think she has more to prove before being labelled as a legend As for ASIB - unpopular opinion but it honestly felt like it was a right place right time kind of moment. Not saying Gaga didnt do the soundtrack justice, but I don't think Gaga is the main reason the soundtrack was a success (unlike Whitney with The Bodyguard)

In 2022 nobody cares about YT anymore because none watches mv anymore and because she gained those views during 2019 … I have not even seen this performance myself so yeah … another BoTs or hard core LM’s watching it
