her pop songs have always felt very cheap. I like this song but it feels very subpar compared to her other discography. Her ballads are elegant and sound expensive, her pop songs not so much

It's like she cannot do a good pure pop song, I mean she worked with Max Martin who's basically done excellent pop masterpieces but his work with Adele is always subpar. 

 

Her ballads and slow songs are excellent but her poppy song are so underwhelming for the most part.

Oh well they probably have not done it as quickly.  She did it in only 23 weeks!  That is an average daily stream of around 600,000 a day.  That truly must be another level that no one has ever done before.    Adele is The Real Music Industry (TM) after all.  No one is on her level.

Obviously Taylor was only able to do that because it had a feature with streaming powerhouse Bon Iver.  No one can  challenge what Adele can do solo.

I think the reason her pure pop songs with Max are subpar is because she doesn’t fully commit and songs end up not even sounding “pure pop”. She like half commits instead of just letting Max work his magic. She still forces some kind of “real instrumental” drum and acoustic guitar sound into the production instead of ever just going yolo and doing full synth or electronic.
