Ultraviolence is kinda meh

I do not agree, ****** my way to the top is an anthem. West Coast alone is one of her best works.

oh and Old Money and Arcadia also feel like sister songs… her mind

Some songs are okay but the production could be a lot more bold and interesting

i could do without Pretty When You Cry, it’s always felt very fillerish to me and i don’t get the praise for it :michael: and her cover of The Other Woman is kinda of meh. but other than those, i f*cking adore the album, every track feels timeless and summery. Money Power Glory and Old Money are both just flawless :clap3:

i think she’s definitely improved on the lyrical front as the years have gone by and refined her vocals quite a bit, but i really don’t understand how the vocal melodies could be considered “horrible.” she’s such a right on melodist, and her only album where that’s really faltered is Lust for Life

I don't know, maybe it's the vocals, but something is not clicking in a lot of UV songs

I would have said Tomorrow Never Came & Dealer were closer in sound

It's her second best album, after Honeymoon. So no, you're in the wrong here.

her pen improved considerably. for example Black Bathing Suit is just on another level compared to her older stuff

Loud and wrong

because of the duet element kinda, but Dealer and Money Power Glory have that somewhat psychedelic, smoky productional atmosphere

Is there one of her albums you think should be praised instead?

i would say in sound more than because it's a duet

COCC gets trashed as her worst album by so many members here when it has several career highs and it's very solid throughout apart from like 1 skip. Easily her second best album that doesn't get any due credit because it's "yeehaw country" or w/e

Kinda agree but I never really liked Lana until NFR (which is my favorite followed by COCC) so I thought part of it was just me needing to go back to her "older" music to give it a second chance.

I think that’s the current album of hers I’m on, having only listened to it once I think I agree

I really like Ultraviolence but I've always failed to see what prompts the universal praise it gets from the Lananators

It's flawlessly produced but kinda her worst album lyrically and there's a lot of filler for me

But any album that gave us Brooklyn Grammy can't be ragged on too hard

hmmmm but it’s so much brighter sounding

like Tomorrow Never Came is Beatlesesque and favoring acoustic guitar, while Money Power Glory and Dealer feel way gloomier with darker synths and more narcotized idk. it’s like Tomorrow Never Came feels like weed, but Money Power Glory and Dealer feel like downers and cigarettes

i may need to relisten, but i always thought TNC and Dealer had a similar hazy sound

It was an awesome statement to make at the time, big FU to the critics, but I think the insistence on recording every track live with a band and the way Dan Auerbach produced it makes it a bit hard to listen to sometimes. Like, some of the sounds are pretty grating.

"cause my boyfriend is pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me, cause I'm a Brooklyn Baby..."

nice melodies in that song, but i can't stand the lyrics. She has similar lyrics in Black Bathing Suit, but they are delivered with a different conviction and they work well unlike in Brooklyn Baby

It's her most overrated for sure.

How dare you, Marlon!? :chick3:

imo Ultraviolence is her best album I love how cohesive and thematic it is, and I love how raw the production feels. My Lana trinity is UV, NFR, BB

I think at the time it felt really fresh and creative but I do see how it's perhaps not as good as some of her other projects. However it's definitely not worse than LFL it has some of her best songs in it. :deadbanana2:

let's go with this

It is not ok to be this loud and wrong, Brando. UV walked so Reputation could RUN.

I still blast BB and West Coast back-to-back in the car and it’s phenomenal.
