Paula did not her first two singles flopped then she ran off 6 in a row and her album took over a year to hit number one y'all doin da most to discredit Ashanti
BeyIridescent Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Im 40. My college days were lit because of Ashanti!!!

But they went back later and re-released it and added the rap. I never said that. It’s very clear I meant since her debut. I said this: “It has been twenty years since Ashanti’s debut, but yet no girl has been able to replicate her success in their first years. Why?” Change your title then. It’s misleading

swissman Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 I'd argue Gaga's debut was just as big a success given the instant hold she had on pop music and her run of 11-consecutive Top Ten singles (not including non-US singles), three of which were #1. The only difference is that her fame (no pun intended) came after her debut album was dropped, so it didn't have a high first week debut, and the notable difference here being that Ashanti had a #1 hit collab the year before her album was even out, so hype would've been building vs. Gaga's situation where her lead single wasn't even on the Hot 100 at the time the album came out. That being said, Ashanti's instant success and series of very successful collaborations is super impressive, especially the collabs part because that is not something many pop-girl debuts also have to their credit, especially not that amount of successful collaborations.

Mystic Boy Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 Why are people arguing about Ashanti total US domination in 2002 ? The girl was EVERYWHERE on radio. Like the biggest 2002 hits had her vocals on it Too bad solo Beyoncé appeared and totally eclipsed her

There was not a soul in HS who did not know the lyrics to the song.
Iaintsorry Posted April 26, 2022 Posted April 26, 2022 (edited) I liked Ashanti, but does any of this really matter when your career ends after 2 years and these achievements are no longer even noticed? Edited April 26, 2022 by Iaintsorry

Beyonce literally sold more in the US than Ashanti’s album did worldwide, and DIL was far bigger worldwide to boot
