Baby peaked at #15 and barely made noise... so really the list stops at 5 hits in a row with almost half being features. Other pop girlies have made much more impressive starts

what u talkin about Baby is a hit, don't try it

Even if you go back to the 80s, Paula Abdul started her career with four #1 singles from a debut album, setting a new record, and her debut album also went number one, and then she scored two more #1 singles from her second album too, which album also went to number one.

Paula did not

her first two singles flopped then she ran off 6 in a row and her album took over a year to hit number one

y'all doin da most to discredit Ashanti

Wow. Might need to elaborate how big she was since these teens still trying to downplay her success :dies:

The Way That You Love Me flopped too as the follow-up too. But they went back later and re-released it and added the rap.

I never said that. It’s very clear I meant since her debut. I said this: “It has been twenty years since Ashanti’s debut, but yet no girl has been able to replicate her success in their first years. Why?”

Change your title then. It’s misleading

Her debut album sold more than Beyoncé’s debut album. Ashanti was huge and mainstream. She was everywhere!

too bad she’s a fad after all that

I'd argue Gaga's debut was just as big a success given the instant hold she had on pop music and her run of 11-consecutive Top Ten singles (not including non-US singles), three of which were #1.

The only difference is that her fame (no pun intended) came after her debut album was dropped, so it didn't have a high first week debut, and the notable difference here being that Ashanti had a #1 hit collab the year before her album was even out, so hype would've been building vs. Gaga's situation where her lead single wasn't even on the Hot 100 at the time the album came out.

That being said, Ashanti's instant success and series of very successful collaborations is super impressive, especially the collabs part because that is not something many pop-girl debuts also have to their credit, especially not that amount of successful collaborations.

Maybe you all have some answers: @Devin @GoodGuyGoneGhetto@Armani?

Why I knew exactly who it was before clicking the thread. Nah but fr she deserves a longer career she was so successful then fizzled. :rip:

Why are people arguing about Ashanti total US domination in 2002 ? :skull:

The girl was EVERYWHERE on radio. Like the biggest 2002 hits had her vocals on it :skull:

Too bad solo Beyoncé appeared and totally eclipsed her :rip:

What?! Are you just talking about the charts because "Baby" was everywhere at the time. Classic Ashanti!

There was not a soul in HS who did not know the lyrics to the song.

I liked Ashanti, but does any of this really matter when your career ends after 2 years and these achievements are no longer even noticed?

No she did NOT, lmao the utter lies. Beyonce literally sold more in the US than Ashanti’s album did worldwide, and DIL was far bigger worldwide to boot
