It's kinda an open secret in the industry that some artists like Dua give some percentage of their royalties to spotify so spotify makes sure the song gets heard and becomes a hit so they get more money. I spoke to someone working as an intern in the music industry and they said this: Quote I worked for a label last summer and during a call, the label head said that spotify gives you preferential playlist placements if you give them a cut of royalties and that the pitch that spotify sends has Dua has an example...
