As someone who doesn't really like LOTR, I just hope this will be well-written and an interesting story.  I'm not expecting something as complex as GOT, but I hope it's at least better than WOT.

Good afternoon ATRL. I am a 40 year old man wondering if I will enjoy this show? The trailer doesn't tell me much. I like the original trilogy and even the Hobbit movies but this looks like it has such a huge cast, I'm worried I might not like it in episodic format

 

Regardless, I'll rewatch the original trilogy in preparatiom

I'm gonna try to just not compare to the cast from the trilogy. This Galadriel was always gonna be different from Cate's version. I can still enjoy the show for what it is assuming the plot is actually good.

No exact plot details, but still putting it in spoiler cases just in case

From what I've seen and read, yes there'll be at least two big battle scenes in the first season, but I wouldn't classify them as BIG big (which I'd describe the Minas Tirith battle in the 3rd LOTR movie as for example). 

The truly big battles should come in later seasons, when (canon/lore spoilers for future seasons below)…

1. when Sauron first wages war on the elves to retrieve the Rings Of Power
2. in the final 5th season, when they fully depict the War Of The Last Alliance (which was briefly shown in the LOTR prologue)

 

Although I'm sure they'll come up with other big battles for the other seasons inbetween too, since battle scenes are kinda a required staple of fantasy shows.
