Delirious Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Does anyone know of any artists who makes music like Sky Ferreira? Like gorgeous melodies and atmosphere but 80's? Melodies are the most important imo

Melodies are the most important imo Quote This Enchanted and Quicksand are really top of the tops already, but Lights On is a stunning opener too and with Twin and The Key (another song with huge climax like This Enchanted) my top 5 closes. Til We Run Out of Air is up there too though, it's the longest song so it definitely feels like a big closer. There aren't any skips or weak points anyway, honestly the title track is low key my least favorite, because unlike the rest it doesn't rely on cozy nostalgic melody so it doesn't hit all the soft spots, but it's stop top notch. Sunday Song is gorgeous too, it reminds me of Donna Lewis classic I Love You Always Forever. This is the album Sky Ferreira would love to release and considering it's produced by Jorge Elbrecht & Dan *****. if Masochism isn't just as good then Sky might become redundant. Lights On literally sounds like highly anticipated Don't Forget - blackoutzone (via GTWA album thread before the atrl database cleaning) On 4/22/2022 at 1:01 PM, JoeAg said: The Rhythm sounds like the exact vibe i’m craving from Sky this feels like a natural progression from NTMT, 24 Hours and I Will feel kinda like prefaces to these songs On 4/22/2022 at 1:55 PM, TrueBlood said: Now that you said this, this whole album sounds exactly like what I'd love Masochism (lol) to sound like. Quote A winning blend of pop melodies and shoegaze textures defines the sound of Brisbane’s Harriette Pilbeam – AKA Hatchie. Songs such as the superb opener here, Lights On, join the (admittedly quite distant) dots between the Cocteau Twins and All Saints; Quicksand and This Enchanted are both blessed with huge choruses. While her influences are not hard to spot – Sky Ferreira, La Roux (on the title track particularly), Mazzy Star, Carly Rae Jepsen – they are configured in imaginative and distinctive new combinations, with lush production care of Jorge Elbrecht. - https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/apr/24/hatchie-giving-the-world-away-review Quote When you listen to Keepsake, the debut LP by Harriette Pilbeam—known professionally as Hatchie—it’s a clear throwback to the indie dream-pop of days past, when names like Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins dominated the indie music narrative. But with her second studio album Giving the World Away, Pilbeam has kept the synths but embraced more of an alt-pop sound and image reminiscent of Sigrid or Sky Ferreira. The record goes places its predecessor did not and helps establish Hatchie as a voice to watch on the alternative/indie pop scene. - https://www.popmatters.com/hatchie-giving-world-away-review Quote Yet Giving The World Away doesn’t feel like a reboot so much as a payoff – it’s easily her most confident and rewarding work to date, the result of Pilbeam’s commitment to redefining her relationship with her music. These 12 songs are denser in their instrumentation and production than Hatchie’s previous work; Giving the World Away was produced by Jorge Elbrecht, who’s worked with Japanese Breakfast and Sky Ferreira, while percussion was played by Beach House live drummer James Barone. Regardless, the album is still imbued with Pilbeam’s established touches of enchantment and sensitivity. - https://beatsperminute.com/album-review-hatchie-giving-the-world-away/ Quote "You could take a break to recalibrate," Hatchie sings at one point on Giving the World Away, and that's just what she did on her second album. While her first full-length, 2019's Keepsake, proved she could expand on her 1990s-meets-21st century, dream pop-meets-Top 40 pop style with sweet sincerity, three years later she branched out with a more ambitious sound and more mature songwriting. Working with Jorge Elbrecht -- who has helped Tamaryn, Sky Ferreira, and Japanese Breakfast reach ethereal heights -- and Beach House drummer James Barone, on Giving the World Away Hatchie ventures further into the more complex and sometimes darker approach she only hinted at on her debut album. - https://www.allmusic.com/album/giving-the-world-away-mw0003655966?1651572557464
Glassmouth Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 I don't know, the fact that she assisted to the Met Gala tells me this is happening.
OhDearAtlas Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 This was never not going to happen. Capitol booked her festivals and commissioned a teaser for the single. They’re putting in money. Her attending the Met is also a good sign. Plus, don’t forget that BlackoutZone has already heard the song. It’s definitely a thing and coming at some stage. They shouldn’t have posted the teaser this soon, but I guess they had to after all the talk of releasing in March.
4Walls Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 I've really tried to get into Hatchie but the songs are kinda so boring and I love this kind of music too. maybe im a hater.

June 23rd - Sky deletes her Twitter account. August 6th - Sky replies to a fan asking about new music on Instagram, affirming once again that she has finished her singles and is waiting for the coronavirus crisis to be over so she can make videos and perform the songs live. She also states that she is personally aiming for a 2020 release, although that is dependent on how the pandemic turns out. Just read through all of this again and tbh, there seems to have been a lot of cases of the label probably telling her they'd release the music and then pulled back. She's mentioned that one her first two singles is about "a fire baptism" which obv refers to "Don't Forget" which means that that song has been done for years and awaiting release. The worst part was the whole "60 days" fiasco and the promised visual EP not happening. Everything else doesn't feel that bad in retrospect. 2015 to 2019 was rough, but everything that came after is understandable. She clearly wants the album to be heavy on visuals and pulling that off during the pandemic definitely wasn't that easy so I can understand why she waited another 2 years. Ngl that fan asking her to release stuff at the height of the first lockdown pissed me off. Everybody was pushing back projects at that time and the way they asked her to "just release" stuff was kinda obnoxious.

Roger Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Omg I thought I was the only one who hears nothing of Sky in Hatchie music. I just can't get into Hatchie, it's very lifeless to me. It's not bad music at all, it's just that I hear nothing that really stands out that makes me want to save her music on my library.
Indie Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Maybe y'all should open a Hathcie base thread or something cause her music isn't anything like Sky's besides being of a similar genre...

Quicksand is nice, but her and Sky are giving very different things. Say what you want about Sky, but she has a very unique image and I can't think of anyone who does what she does. Yes, it's been 9 years since her last album, but from what she's been saying about Masochism it seems to be in the same, grungy 80s vibe as NTMT.

Taylor fanboy Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 What makes Sky more special is her elusiveness, and life-altering experiences, like Grimes. They have the creative talent, and special touch, but has had so much going on with their personal lives, to be productive and consistent.
