BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 This Saturday jump has definitely changed the game plan. $200M locked up. If it keeps having these big big jumps on Saturdays and slim dips on Sunday because of intense PLF/IMAX demand, it reminds me of how Avatar 2 played. We could start talking about $250M domestic as a high end. With $105M OS weekend, plus $85M domestic (now possible again), that's a $190M global weekend. plus China presales are still moving very well, to the point where I think $25M next weekend is probably happening. Add a boosted Japan which debuts the weekend after ($3.5M) plus the Middle East markets that won't open until after Ramadan, and we could have been looking at a $225-235M global weekend if everything opened at once, nearly 60% of Dune: Part One's entire run 1 1
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) Italy exploding on Saturday ($1.22M) with a 127% increase from Fri Indonesia- Dune Pt. 1 total run: $333k Dune Pt. 2 2-day gross: $302k OW est- $550k Greece- Part 2 OD +90% over Part 1 Edited March 3 by BNF91 2
GGD Posted March 3 Posted March 3 This adaptation is great and epic! My only qualm is the omission of Alia Atreides' appearance and role. She was there as a telepathic Fetus The books, David Lynch and the Mini Series' adaptation included Alia in the plot because... Spoiler She's the one who killed the Barron and would eventually be the regent for Paul's twin children

I can't see this having Oppenheimer success sadly even though its a masterpiece. There's a 0% chance this will only make $400M. It's going to do about half that in the opening weekend ffs.

Obviously Jessica has broken away and has her own agenda now but I still don't understand what all the Bene Gesserit manipulation is for In short, their goal is to control the whole world with the religions and prophecies they would make up, which is why they were sending their Reverend Mothers to different planets (including Dune) and spread their prophecies that would benefit them. However, there was also a real prophecy about a man, who would possess Reverend Mother’s powers and save the world - Kwisatz Haderach. They wanted to get him with the help of breeding different families together and mixing genes and stuff, as they wanted to make sure they could control Kwisatz Haderach and use him in their favor. Yet, something went wrong and he was born one generation earlier than planned (Jessica was supposed to give birth to a daughter, who would later breed with Feyd Rautha and give birth to the planned Kwisatz Haderach, that was the plan) Unlike the plan, Jessica gave birth to a boy instead, and Kwisatz Haderach ended up being Paul and he is clearly… not a fan of Bene Gesserit, so the plan of controlling the Kwisatz Haderach is doomed Movie spoiler: Spoiler you can even see how GAGGED that Reverend Mother hag was at the end, when Paul yelled SILENCE she was shook and she knew it was over for them girls Edited March 3 by illia 1

It's opening with 170-200M without a lot of big markets (japan, china etc..) With the incredible WOM has chances for 700-750M final range. in The US got an incredible saturday of about 28-29M so the weeken prediction now is up from 76M to 80-85M.

What's the end goal

What's the end goal That's a bit of a spoiler territory for the next books but Spoiler According to their plan he would still save the world, but he would be loyal to Bene Gesserit, so they would in fact rule the world together But that did not happen obviously

I don't care what she does because that's my mama. As for the film itself, it's actually embarrassing -- EMBARRASSING -- that the modern blockbuster is not held to this standard. The craft, the performances that elevated even thankless roles, the complexity of its themes and messaging. There is so much working for this and I'm not even a huge fantasy/sci-fi head but my expectations after Part One were sky-high and this met them. This is cinema! 1
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) More funnies Also Dune Pt. 2 has become the current highest rated film of all-time on France's Allocine (their audience score system) with 4.6/5 Edited March 3 by BNF91 1
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I must say there are some overseas markets that are kind of underperforming, which is very surprising to me. Let's hope legs will do their job in some of these places. But most are doing very well. There's just a couple places that I expected a bigger boost from the first film (UK cough cough)

Iconique! 1 1

Saintlor Posted March 3 Posted March 3 (edited) The older members of the cast completely outshine the young ones (Timothee and Zendaya) but because of ageism, Timothee and Zendaya will get all of the credit for carrying Edited March 3 by Saintlor 1 1
TheLastChord Posted March 3 Posted March 3 It's a masterpiece. This is very likely one of the best blockbusters of the 21st century. 1
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Domestically they are giving Sunday a 30% drop, which is too big. Will be 20-25%. Weekend actuals will come in higher. $83M+ $97M Overseas is fine in retrospect. If you remove the Chinese, Japanese (not released yet) and Russian (no release) totals from Part One's box office, the overseas gross is around $220M. So Part Two's opening weekend in the rest of the markets is about 45% of Part One's total run. Might see a little jump in actuals for OS too. I did expect a tiny bit more of a glow up for opening weekend though. Losing Russia really hurts though, that would have been a $10M+ debut. Legs should be good and $400M+ OS (once China, Japan and Middle East release) seems quite certain. $180M+ global weekend.
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Top overseas debuts U.K. - $11.8M France - $9.6M Germany - $9.1M S. Korea - $6.9M Australia - $6.0M Italy - $3.9M Mexico - $3.9M Spain - $3.5M Poland - $2.7M Taiwan - $2.6M Netherlands - $2.5M Sweden - $2.0M
BNF91 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 A scene which no one was expecting, China presales are chugging right along. Total after 8 days is $1.7M, passing Aquaman 2's entire presales ($1.6M) with 4 days still to go!
