Anyway, the show was.... fine. Nothing special, and it was a bit surprising how lacking in first party there was given they had a whole HOUR.

 

I'm assuming the COVID effect is still going on and many internal delays had to be made for their first party games. FF16, Spider-Man 2, AC Mirage, Metal Gear, Alan Wake 2, Sword of the Sea, and Marathon were the best games shown

No TLOU Factions (seems like Naughty Dog/Neil are all focused on the stupid and reductive HBO shows now), no Stellar Blade, no Pragmata, no first party gameplay for Firewalk, no Twisted Metal, no Horizon Multiplayer. Where the hell was the Sony first party. this s**t was embarrassing.

 

I'm so sick of CGI trailers. Hate it so much. 

 

I was so distracted and disappointed by the Showcase that I could hardly focus on Spider-Man 2. Even then, I don't feel like I saw anything that wowed me in that gameplay sequence. 

 

I'm so underwhelmed by this showing. Holy s**t Sony you dropped the ball hard.

Yeah, that was a very underwhelming showcase. The third party games were the strong suit, but the first party showing was severely lackluster. Just a butch of CGI trailers. A bummer.

That was... Underwhelming for PlayStation's standards 

 

I guess there were a couple interesting announcements (Phantom Blade 0, The Plucky Squire) and gameplay reveals (Alan Wake 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage, Spider-Man 2), but that's about it. I guess they don't really have competition with Xbox barely releasing anything first party and Nintendo being in a lane of its own.

 

I genuinely can't believe they didn't show Factions 2 though, I'm so pissed.

Gonna say it. Spidey 2 gameplay was  just a bit of iteration on the (already boring) gameplay loop of mashing square until the OTE finisher animation. No changes to the swinging physics, hardly any image quality upgrades (if at all), the same boring enemies that wait for you to attack..

 

Not seeing the next gen evolution at all. Even the graphics were meh. Horizon Forbidden West stays unbeaten in the visual department and that's a crossgen game.

I don't see the issue with Spider-Man 2 because the formula was already so solid and it looks like they definitely improved on it. At the end of the day it'd be so weird if they changed drastically considering it worked so well for the first two (one and a half?) games.

 

I agree though that they could've improved on enemies behaviours and graphic overall.

Yeah they're really pushing it with Factions 2. I mean, I really don't see what it's taking them so long when they already had assets and core gameplay ready, it was just a matter of building the online infrastructure (or rather, rehauling the one from the original Factions), creating a couple of maps and character models, that's literally it.

 

If it's not getting announced at the Summer Game Fest, I guess it won't come this year either. That would be actually tragic and laughable, I truly hope it doesn't happen.

I don't know why they just didn't show a flashy (short) gameplay trailer and do a separate full-on gameplay demo showcase later (well by the absence of literally any first-party announcements/news, we know why lol)

 

I do worry about the sequel feeling like "been there done that," but we'll see...

I know they’re not simply making “Factions 2” and that they’ve said the MP is MASSIVE but I just want some news. I hope they don’t end up scrapping the whole thing. 
 

I’ve been really enjoying playing Factions recently. It’s held up incredibly well considering it came out in 2013 and the community is still thriving, you find matches almost instantly.
