Box Office Mojo update is an error. It's at $497M.

Thenumbers.com is more reliable and comprehensive these days. Ever since IMDB bought out Box Office Mojo it's been downhill.

$500 Million in under 2 weeks and making its budget in domestic numbers alone:gaycat4::lmao:a literal hit.

I can’t believe that this flopped too. It’s not even reaching The Batman’s numbers. Firt MCU sequel to not do better than the last one. There’s trouble at marvel

When all is said and done,  Disney will likely bring in around $375M in box office revenue after the theatres/ overseas markets take their shares of the $700-750M gross.

General rule of thumb is: studio retains 55% of domestic ticket sales, 40-45% of overseas ticket sales (20% for Chinese market).

Thor has a $250M prod budget+ $100-150M distribution/advertising/ marketing spend. That $375M is already eaten up by those costs.  So,  Disney will make a profit, albeit small and will likely have to rely on ancillaries/Blu-ray disc sales.

Just because a film with $250M budget hits $250M domestic (which it hasn't, is still almost $20M short of that) doesn't mean it's made its budget back.. got a long ways to go.

While the other films are having nice 45-55% drops (as expected for mid-July) Thor takes another 63% tumble on it's 2nd Monday. Sad. Only $5.3M.

Losing IMAX and PLFs to Nope on Thursday so expect another big fall this weekend, like 55-57%. Starting to think this might have trouble even getting to Ragnarok numbers domestically. :deadbanana4:

It won't surpass Ragnarok domestic or international total.  It's plummeting everywhere. It will be the first MCU that will fail to outgross its predecessor.

it's deserved, they're ruining the character. Marvel's relying too much on comedy, most of them feel more like a Scary Movie kinda parody of a Marvel movie than what we got in the first couple of phases

Blame Taika Waititi for that. Marvel gave him complete creative control after the success of Ragnarok.

The marvel fans here convincing themselves it’s a hit :rip:

At this point I feel people are just gonna wait for it to come to D+ (which is the better option tbh).

Probably me honestly. I got covid so haven't been able to see it yet, by now it's likely only a little over a month from Disney+ and I'm think I'm happy to wait that even as a marvel fan tbh. It's Thor so the stakes aren't very high, I don't feel like I NEED to see this movie unlike something like MoM. I'm sure I'll have a good time watching it whenever I do and in whatever capacity, but the drive to see it is not there really.

The numbers are barely moving :deadbanana4:

People thought it'll do better than DS :deadbanana2:

4.5M for Wednesday and Minions is closely trailing behind with 3.7M.

Will this even outgross Ragnarok?

Nope is projected to debut at #1 this weekend.

Outgrossing Ragnarok is out of the question when it comes to the worldwide gross, domestic it is still on pace to do it I think.

Posted

I'm thinking $3.8M Thursday? Then I think it will be headed for around $21-22M this weekend. It should pass Ragnarok domestically but just narrowly. It will 100% have a decrease in admissions from Ragnarok, however.

I thought I was being conservative with my prediction but even $22M will be unreachable this weekend.

Tragic $5.6M Friday, down 57% from last Friday :rip: objectively bad. Don't think it's even hitting $20M, maybe $18.5-19M. Reaching Ragnarok is pretty much dead I think.

We will have to wait for OS numbers on Sunday morning. One thing is for sure, Disney will be waiting on Blu-ray sales before it makes any decent profit on this.
